Just Like Me

“A wonderful morning to work!”
It was just another sunny and bright day in this wonderful world. The birds were singing their morning song, while the burning skin of zombies and skeletons was swept away in the morning breeze. Steve picked up his old leather book which he had made on the second day of being stranded. Even though it was old, it was still his favorite book to read.

“59 Days. Could’ve been worse than this.”

He went around his newly upgraded home. With beautiful huge wooden walls, cobblestone near the bottom, fulfilled by the stone brick pillars perfectly surrounding and rising well above 5 blocks. And then the huge glass window where he could look out on his fellow mountainsides. The window itself was a huge 4 x 7 window, and it made the landscape look so perfect.

Living inside a mountainside may not have been the safest idea, but it keeps monsters from the outside world, out. Steve never thought about if there could be monsters on the inside.

He walked up to the huge 4 x 7 window and looked out on the beautiful sunrise, which he could just about see in the left corner before the beauty of sunlight was vanished behind the other mountain. A few flowers were beginning to bloom too. There he sat for a few hours thinking about what to do with all the things he had. He had freedom, no limits, and a sanity.

A burning zombie got up on the window and slammed it’s rotten head against the glass. The glass didn’t break, but the zombie. It seemed different.

The green skin had small bits of peach colour, he could nearly smell the clothing was fresh, like if the zombie bought it at a local store. But he was on his own little island. Isolated. And it’s brain seemed to be perfectly fine, yet. It was still burning. It was still burning 1 hour into the daylight.

Steve stood up and shaked it off as if the zombie was like any other, and soon after it fell onto it’s knees and vaporized into the late morning breeze. Only a small bit of blood was left on the window. Nothing too serious. Steve grabbed his bucket of water and went outside to clean it off.

“Stupid zombie” he grumbled on his way out.

He went outside and closed the old wooden door behind him. That door had taken quite a few punches from the zombies. But it was still intact and kept the monsters away. Steve could smell the fresh air. No more zombies, or skeletons. Just air.

He threw the water onto the window, and the blood slowly drifted downstream with the water.

“Another wonderfully boring day in this lonely world!” Steve shouted out into the mountainside that was his house.

“Another day in this lonely world...”

Steve shook his head and looked up on the blood again. It was... It was not gone. It had simply formed 8x8 cube. Not in blocks but in something he couldn’t see. It was a face shape. Not somebody he had ever known, neither someone he recognized.

It was just… Something, or rather someone.

Steve stood there with his empty bucket. Staring. Staring into the square... Something. It wasn't too scary, but he had never seen that happen before. It was just odd. Steve decided to get more water to clean the window, and simply get it out of the world before the next day. Day 60.

Near the water square water banks he bowed down to get the bucket refilled. He kept looking up, and still wondering if his mind was playing tricks on him with the window.

It probably was. It’s probably gone mad too. His mind.

Steve took a short look up and noticed a skeleton head floating at the top of the water. It was just floating, nothing special about it. The mouth seemed to move a bit though, not much, but it was deftly moving up and down. Slowly.

Steve stood up and gave the skeleton head a kick into the water banks, and went back to cleaning his window.

The blood finally came off, now he had a completely clean 4x7 window. Just ready for the next morning to come. Just ready for day 60.

Steve went inside to calm down his tired hands. Cleaning that blood off the window took a lot more power than he had ever imagined. He went up to sit in his chair near the window. Home again. Nothing unusual. Just Steve, his wooden house, and that figure-

Steve squeezed his eyes to look out the window. He got up from the wooden chair, pushing his fingertips into to the wooden sides, and begun to look closer. A mysterious figure, square white glowing eyes, brown and messy hair, and a light blue T-shirt just like his. Standing. Standing and staring back at his dreadful face.

“Hey! Who are you?!”

Steve shouted at the window while banging his right hand against the wall of glass.

A huge bang on his door sounded.

In panic Steve looked at the door with his now desperate blue eyes. A white fog in his eyes was beginning to form. He looked back out the window. Gone. It was gone?

Outside his window a bunch of loud noises he hadn’t heard for a long time begun to rumble his house. Wood started to fall down, and the pillars begun to crack.

Another bang on the door sounded off.

Red and Blue lights begun to flicker outside his windows. The lights were repeated over and over. Never stopping for a single moment.

Another huge bang sounded on Steve’s door.

Steve, in his desperation to know what was happening, turned around and begun to shout at the door.

“Who are you! and what do you want?!”

No one answered, and a few seconds of silence with Steve staring at the door went by. He knew the door could withstand zombie attacks, but what kind of monster would bang this hard on a wooden door?

A hand grabbed Steve’s shoulder and pushed him around.

White glowing eyes, a light blue T-shirt just like his, a breath as bad as a zombie, and the brown messy hair. The figure. How?

As questions of fear begun to flood Steve’s head ‘It’ begun speaking in a weird distorted voice. It was deep and had a lot of reverb to it. Just like his.

“You have to kill them. I can’t, but you-”

Steve cut ‘It’ off and pushed whatever it was away from him. He could feel his backbones lean hard up against the wooden door.

“It’s not real!” Steve shouted into the empty house of planks and broken pillars.

“YOU’RE NOT ME!”

The echo of his voice was as confused as he was angry. A punch to the wooden door he had been leaning his wet eyes, and sour face on. Broke it. In a desperate attempt to get away from It he picked up a piece of the shattered wood, and held it onto his own light blue T-shirt.

“Stay away! Or I’ll end myself before you dare!”

The flickering lights outside his 4x7 glass wall became clearer and a siren became louder.

‘It’ shouted at Steve

“KILL THEM BEFORE THEY KILL YOU!”

A moment, which seemed like forever went by with silence

‘It’ was slowly vaporizing into thin air as Steve was laying on the ground with the broken wood nearing his heart.

Day 60 has begun.

Just Like Me - Herobrine Mythos

“Today the suspected murder of 2 adults, Steve, has been captured. After 2 months of trying to catch him, the local police informed this morning that he has been captured, and is now awaiting trial for his crimes.

He managed to kill a 51 year old man, and clean off evidence from his apartment's window before police could have arrived. Later he went on to drown a 37 year old girl in the river. Witness say he kicked he untill she passed out.

Police is still investigating the case”

“What a day huh”

‘It’ said.

Steve stood up in his jail cell slamming on the bars. Screaming a lot of nonsense into the concrete fortress.

“You’re mentally disturbed Steve. I have always been you, and you’re me.”

Steve. You’re mentally disturbed.

Just like me.

Herobrine.

Inspration to this story:

Reveal the insperation behind the story
The Story:
I was inspired by an old danish mad-mans tale, which was about a very nice guy who described his world as being "A lonely island floating on buildings" This lead me to think of Minecraft, and since this is more of a mad-mans tale I begun to consider if Steve could somehow, or in some way be turned mad, and I begun to question who Herobrine was. We all know he's a ghost in the game, but I begun to question that if he in any way could actually be real.

So I ended up making Herobrine the illussion that Steve see's as he desends into madness.

Photo's:
My insperation to creating these odd black, white, and red photo's came from a blind man I used to talk to. (We were neighbours) and he told me that he might not be able to see, but he does see white and black stripes which sometimes in his nightmares would make what he described as "Distorted square faces he couldn't reconize".

From his story I figured that it would be intresting to have a part of this nightmare become photo's for a story that's just as grim.

Explanation of what's going on:

Reveal Explanation
In this story I tried to capture how insanity sometimes makes the world seem like a lonely island. You just wait and wait and wait for nothing to happend.

In this story what is happending is that Steve and Herobrine is the exact same person. Herobrine is however the voice, and illusion called "It" of Steve's mind going mad enough to kill. In this case Steve never knew about what he had done (Or to be more exact: What Herobrine had done for him) and this leads to Steve seeing herobrine as his minds begins to realize what he has done.
