Chapter one: Awakening



I opened my eyes with a gasp. The vivid memories of the last 30 seconds of my previous life are still in my mind. The semi-truck hurling towards me, the pain of crushed between a wall and the truck, and the calm look of a man in a lab coat, who asked: “Do you want to survive?” I could barely mutter “Yes”, and then my vision turned black, and I couldn’t feel anything. Then, I woke up. Lying on a medical bed, connected to wires. For a moment, it seemed like my vision has expanded, but then some screen was turned on, stating my status, mood, emotions, malfunctions, and when looking at a scientist with my bright blue cybernetic eyes, i saw the name, profession, and current emotion of the person. I looked at myself, and saw I didn’t have a human body anymore. I saw cybernetic arms, cybernetic legs, my entire body was a chrome colored metal-like material. Upon scanning, I knew it was a cybernetic material called Cyborium, specifically produced for cyborgs. I was astonished by my bewildered body, if I were a human, I’d be the hottest girl. Everything about my Cyborium body was perfect.

Then, a door opened, and someone familiar came walking in. The man with the lab coat, who was there in my previous life for the last 15 seconds. He smiled, and waved. “Welcome back to humanity.” He said. Then, he explained everything. “You’re a cyborg now. You are created to be the guard of Lily, the daughter of Emperor and Empress Hyola. You are tasked with protecting her from any danger, and make her happy. You have built in weapons, which you will be able to use to protect her.” He paused and walked towards me, and laid his hand on my Cyborium arm. “You can retract your hand, and have a cybernetic sword,a machine gun, cybernetic sniper rifle, a laser cannon, a taser, or a shockwave crystal come out instead of your hand. You can use your system to search for how to do it.” I nodded, and opened a menu in my vision, and search up how to use the weapon. I found out. I retracted my hand, and have the cybernetic sword come out. It confused me, it was just a long Cyborium rod. “Is this the sword? It’s just a rod..” I said. The man chuckled, and then explained I had to activate the sword by providing it with Cybertrick, cybernetic electricity. I provided it with Cybertrick, and then the true form of the sword would be seen. A lime green blade, capable of cutting through a wall. My blue eyes sparkled with wonder. “Whoah.. that’s incredible!” I stated, and tried to stand up, but the wires stopped me. The man chuckled. “You’re a little too fast, wait a second, I’ll disconnect the wires.” He then came closer, and disconnected all the wires. “Follow me, we’ll go to the testing center.” He walked to the door, where a panel came out, he placed his hand on it, and the door opened. I followed him, into the hallway. The hallway looks like the typical futuristic lavatory that you’d see in movies. The man, who’s name card states his name, Dr. Quinn Bylone, turned around to face me, and spoke in a stern voice. “The weapons have to be restracted. The lab has a rule, that states: ‘No weapons are allowed to be worn visibly, and used outside of the testing center.’ So retract the sword and get your hand back out.” “Okay.” I simply said, and retract the cybernetic sword, and get my hand back out. Dr. Quinn then smiles, and starts walking. I followed, and walked next to him. He looked at me, and asked me something. “Do you remember what happened? In your previous life?” I nodded and replied with: “I remember it like it was just a minute ago. The semi crushing me, and then you, asking me if I wanted to survive..” Dr. Quinn nodded. “That’s exactly what happened. You were on the brink of losing your life, and I took your brain, and stored it, where it would ‘live’ for a while, until development of your new body was complete.” He paused, people walked past, and we turned a corner, before he spoke again. “After your body was complete, I connected your brain with the body, and here you are, a cyborg. Part human, part robot. Tasked to protect Lily. The daughter of the Emperor and Empress. They funded everything.” I was intrigued. We reached the testing centre. A giant hall, filled with dummies, torso’s of robots, made for the sole purpose of cyborgs testing their abilities on. Dr. Quinn then spoke, while I watched around in awe. “This is the Cyborg Testing Centre. Here, you can destroy dummies and test your new body to your heart’s desire. If you need me, I am at the small cafeteria at your right.” I looked to my right side, where a small cafe was. With the typical neon lights, the name of the cafe was easily visible. “Testing Ground Cafe” it stated.

Dr. Quinn sat down, and gestured to me to go ahead, and test my body. I retracted my hand and got the cybernetic sword out, powered it, locked my vision in on one of the dummies. My cybernetic eyes filled with determination. I attacked the dummie, and obliterated it. Chopped into pieces. The metal was glowing red from where I cut. I looked at my other hand, and thought to myself: “I wonder if my other hand also has weapons.. that would be incredible..” It had. I retracted my other hand, and another cybernetic sword came out. I muttered to myself: “That’s incredible! I can slice with two swords now!” I stood in an intimidating pose, the swords slightly forward, my arms at my side, and downwards. I charged towards the next dummy and obliterated it again, cutting it in three pieces. “That was amazing!” I shouted with excitement. I then shifted from the cybernetic swords to the machine guns. I grabbed a couple of magazines with ammo, and loaded them. I then started shooting, aiming at different dummies their heads and other vital point. Again, I obliterated them. I shifted to the next weapon. The laser cannon. I turned to another dummie, and shot it. The dummie exploded in a whole bunch of sparks and smoke. I looked astonished by the power I possessed. “All of this firepower just to protect a little girl…” I said, as I shifted my machine guns for cybernetic sniper rifles. I ran to the other side of the hall, aimed at yet another dummie, doomed to be decapitated by just one shot. “That is insane…” I said, as i watched the dummie go down in a rain of sparks and smoke. I walked over to a group of dummies, stood in the middle, and shifted the snipers for my hand at one side, and at the other side the shockwave crystal. I activate the crystal, my hair blowing in the power of the shockwave. It sends every dummie flying back, destroyed. “That is incredible powerful..” I say, being dumbfounded by the sheer amount of raw power the crystal possesses. I retract the crystal, and have my hand come back. I walk up to another dummie, to beat it up with my hands. I easily beat it. The metal bended so easily, the dummie was a pile of rubble in a matter of seconds. I got to another dummie, and slashed its head off with just my hand, in one swift motion. “Protecting this girl must be really important…” I muttered to myself, while crushing another dummie by jumping on it. “Now, the climbing wall..” I said, and walked to the climbing wall. I easily climbed to the top, agile as a cat. I jumped down, and gracefully landed, barely making a sound.

After another hour of destroying dummies and training myself, I felt something I wouldn’t expect to feel as a cyborg. Hunger. So, I walked to the cafeteria, where Dr. Quinn sat, sitting on his phone, scrolling through his daily feed. He looked up at me, and asked: “You’re hungry?” I answered with a simple: “Yes.” Dr. Quinn then ordered me some food. A few sandwiches. The waiter, whose name is Adèlie, brought it with a smile. “Enjoy your meal!” She said, with the happy tone I’d expect from her. With my eyes, and scanning, I saw she’s always happy and really caring about everyone. I smiled back, her happy expression affecting mine. “Thank you!” I said, and then ate the sandwiches. She looked at me with a curious expression, patiently waiting until I was done eating, before finally saying something. “You’re a new cyborg, am I right?” I nodded, and answered her with a smile. “I’m a new cyborg indeed.” Adèlie’s eyes sparkled with curiosity, and she sat down and looked at me. “What are you tasked with? Are you another military cyborg, or a guardian cyborg?” I answered with: “I’m a guardian cyborg, tasked with protecting the daughter of the Emperor and Empress.” She smiled, and said: “A important duty, I see..” I nodded, and she continued talking. “Good luck then! A lot of people are trying to get the poor girl..” I nodded. “Is it for ransom because she is the daughter of the Emperor and Empress?” She hesitated for a few seconds, before answering. “I don’t know, I only know that people try to kidnap her.”

Then, i heard Dr. Quinn’s phone vibrate. He looked, and then at me. “The Emperor and Empress are here, with Lily. They want to meet you.” He said. I nodded, stood up, and waited for him to stand up as well. Once he stands up, he leads me to them. I follow, in silence. He opens a door, and gestures for me to get inside. I walk inside, and there they are. The Emperor, Empress, and Lily. “Good day, all of you. I’m assuming you three are the Emperor, Empress and Lily, am I correct?” The Emperor, whose name Daniel is, which I saw with my vision, nodded. “That’s correct, my dau-“ He coughed and cleared his throat. “Daurine. That’s your name from now on.” I nod. “Daurine shall be my name then.” I took a good look at the Emperor. He looks like he is in his fifties, he already has grey hair. It surprised me at first he didn’t wear any formal clothing, but normal clothes. “Must be to hide he is the emperor..” I thought to myself. I then looked at the Empress, she looks young, in her thirties, with long blonde hair. With my vision, I saw her name is Ruby. I bow to her, and she smiles. “There’s no need for any formality dear, you’d be wasting your energy too much, every time you’d see me.. no. No bowing. Okay?” I nod. “Okay, miss.” I say. She smiles, and then places her hand on my cheek. “You look very pretty, you know?” If a cyborg could blush, I definitely would blush. I manage to stammer out: “O-oh, t.. thank.. you…” She chuckles, and then pulls her daughter, Lily towards her. “This is Lily. Lily, this is Daurine. She will be your protector. I’m sure you two will get along fine! Since Daniel and I are going to adopt Daurine, she’ll be your sister.” I kneel down to be to Lily’s level, she’s just 10 years old. I smile, and stretch my hand. “Hello Lily! Nice to meet you!” Lily giggles, and takes my hand. “Nice to meet you too, Daurine! I’m so glad I finally have a sister now! And you will protect me too! That’s super cool!” I smile at her words. “And I’m glad I have a cute little sister.” I stroke her soft, light pink hair, that looks like the color of a lily. Lily starts to giggle, and clings onto my arm. “Big robot sister!” She exclaimed happily. “Yup! Big robot sister. To be more specific, big cyborg sister.” I say. “Big, cyborg protector sister.” I chuckle, and tilt her up in my arms. The Empress smiles, so does the Emperor. “You guys will get along perfectly!” The Empress says happily, while the Emperor just nods. “Let’s go home, shall we?” He asks. I nod. “Sure” I say. I glance over at Dr. Quinn. “Goodbye, Dr. Quinn!” I smile. “Goodbye Daurine.” He nods. I then follow the Emperor and his wife, with Lily in my arms. They walk towards their CyberTrain, chatting about emperor and empress business, which is all boring for a cyborg to mention. I follow them in the train, and the train takes off. Inside the train, Lily starts talking to me. “Daurine?” She asked with a smile. “Yes, Lily?” I replied. “Do you want to know more about me when we’re home?” She asks, looking nervously at me. I take her on my lap, and smile. “Of course! I would love to get to know my new little sister!” And with that being said, I stroke her hair, until we have arrived at the Mansion Hyola.
