RobCo_'s LavaCraft Review
Servers on the top page of PMC usually aren't all that good. Pay 2 Win ranks, bad moderation, unbalanced economies, et cetera.They are only visited because lots of people play them, and only found because of big voting rewards, such as diamonds.
But is this the case for LavaCraft? I went there to find out.
Short answer: Yes.
However, I don't know about the moderation, because I wasn't banned.
The server lives off plugins that run minigames. This includes the Survival Games, Spleef, CTF.
It is a twist from regular minecraft - but I could mention a million other servers that host the exact same plugins, and use the exact same scheme. As a matter of fact, I would play a different server if I wanted to do minigames, because someone who buys a rank - for real money - has a great advantage over non-paying people. Also, I suck - but let's ignore that fact!
Donators can heal themselves, repair tools, get good kits, fly, turn into mobs. Some can even go into creative mode. Keep in mind, this is a survival server, and there are "better" packages than that. The best way to be good on LavaCraft is to get donator-rank, or befriend a donator.
The only reason this server is popular is because there are voting perks.
People simply don't vote without them. If LavaCraft did not have these, another server would take it's place. The top voters get 25$ donation perks. This means there is even more incentive to vote.
The safest place to build is the plot world. This is a good thing, but when the survival world is an old, griefed map, you can't get stuff to build with.
If I wanted a house, I would have to buy stuff from the shops. After my starting money, I would have to farm dirt for hours to get wood.
Or you can be smart and buy a sapling or two, but it's not really the same, now is it?
After making a small wood-industry, and failing horribly at the minigames, I decided that it was enough for me.
A Minecraft server should not be a money-machine, that takes advantage of children, who think it is acceptable to pay money beyond the initial cost of the game. It doesn't even go to the devs.
In total, LavaCraft receives 1/5 stars from me.
