Now, you might say, urghh! ANOTHER I have had enough of these blogs. But listen this one out. it is a bit more in depth.
Firstly, you see them all the time. Skins, playing Minecraft, looking through PMC and watching let's plays. In fact every game character has a skin. If you go through the code you will find a skin and design layout for each character (like I found in GTA Vice City). Now skins tend to get stolen, remixed and other sorts of 'rule breaking'. Now I have (recently) taken up reporting skins. These are (mainly) retextured and unoriginal skins. These are the most common. Now before I go on I shall be talking about motives, why it is annoying, it wastes everyone's time and why it is against the rules.
SKIN THIEVING
Now, skin thieving is one pretty much we all have heard of. I am sure many of you use a skin you did not make yourself, something from a part picker, a famous skinner or even just a friend! Now this is fine, just posting them and using them for your own benefits (i.e xp, popularity and so on) is why this frustrates.
MOTIVES- Most people can see that skin stealing is bad. The select few which do are the ones which want to be popular, need more experience and have some sort of desire to become popular. For example I am just an average guy on PMC, but some people want more. To be popular and well known. This is greed and they want xp, fame and a way to feel good.
EFFECTS- Some of these effects are good, like someone thinking that the skin is good and people like it (same thing as downloads), it can make people feel bad if the stolen skin becomes popular, it can make you feel like you're being targeted (like a bullying case).
PART PICKING
I am sure many of you have seen part pickers from sites such as Minershoes or any other website or program. Now this is sort of like Skin Thieving but involves more parties. These parties are: The skinners (ones who made the skins), the website owner(the person who runs the website), the server owner (the one who owns the server for the website) and the part picker. Now I am sure we all can admit to using a part picker, it isn't bad. But using it for your advantage can be.
MOTIVES- People want a skin which looks good and can gain them some xp quickly from doing little. They cannot skin and want to feel accepted as a skinner. They too want to have that ability to create masses of skins which can quickly gain levels and then make them a bit more noticed.
EFFECTS- Now, the effects aren't as wide spread, but it makes them go under the radar (unless you use a popular part from a part picker) which in turn makes it harder to punish. It causes the website (both PMC and the part picker download/website) to be liable for copyright charges which could cause it to be shut down.
DEFAULT STEALING
This we don't hear about too much but are very common. This includes Herobrine, Steve, Creepers, Zombies and other mobs. It is taking a mob texture and copying it (except for pigmen, zombie pigmen, zombies, Steve and Herobrine (tell me if I missed any)) to a skin, either entirely or partially.
MOTIVES- They would like to use the popularized mob or skin to improve something they stole, made or part picked. They would (mainly) only use this as an innocent way to get some views and downloads on their skins (like a business suit creeper).
EFFECTS- Again, PMC is liable to be charged by Mojang. This could have PMC shut down and then no more me (or your fave people). It also spams and causes a lot of ridiculous skins which can be classified as unoriginal and spam which makes a hard job to work through and report.
RETEXTURING
Now, recently I have seen heaps of people retexturing their skins so it becomes a 'green herobrine supporter' instead of a 'black herobrine supporter' for either someone else or just to quickly upload some skins.
MOTIVES- Xp comes quickly with minimal work, ends up clogging the skins section and withers down the good skins and (increases) your banning probabilities (or something similar). Also to get more subscribers as they have lots of 'good skins'. All you need is a good skin, retexture it for about a minute and 'hey presto!' A new skin to upload.
Effects- Increase your chances of losing upload rights and ban chances. This also is a pain to remove and report. It takes ages to go through all of them and can cause strain on getting to the more urgent reports.
SINGLE/TEXTURE COLOUR SKINS
I make blocky styled skins. Now I am not talking about this sort of skin. One which is just one colour either shaded using dodge and burn, texturing one pixel up or any other technique. It it easy and pointless. It can give a neon effect whatnot. It may look good to some but is more annoying than useful.
MOTIVES- Quickest, easiest skin. Usually accepted by PMC society. Most people think it is fine but it isn't.
EFFECTS- Causes clogs on the skin section and report list.
Basically there is a load of different types of skin rule breakings and these are all frustrating. Please follow the rules which have been put in place. Hope this has helped tell you about these 'crazy psychos' we call skin thieves (and whatever else).
