Minecraft in SPACE? Are you KIDDING ME?
... ok, seriously, don't say this on the Star-made forums. They get really pissy about it. But let me tell you about this game. Star-made is a space exploration game where you're able to build and fly your own spacecraft. There seem to be no limits on what you can build if you can afford it. And you don't need to be able to buy all the parts, you can salvage from derelict space stations, or mine asteroids and planetoids. You can craft any part of your ship if you have the tools and knowledge. Your ships can be simple runabouts all the way up to galactic cruisers. Shaped like anything you want. Want a classic flying saucer? Build it! Want the Starship Enterprise? Build it! Too lazy to build it? Download the blueprints from the website and buy it prebuilt!
This game is still in alpha, that is to say there are many MANY bugs... but it's still very playable, it's FREE (so shut your whining, like I said, FREE) and you can play singleplayer or multiplayer. If you choose to buy the game, it's $6. That's right, $6 American... and like the Minecraft model, you own it and every update from then on for the low low price of $6.
In Star-made you play a captain of your own ship. You can start or join a faction, work with the trade federation (or against it) and fight pirates who want your juicy juicy cargo. So blow them outta the sky and take their cargo instead! Salvage their wrecked ship and build up your own ship's defences. Heck, build a whole FLEET of ships. Build a space station! Or take over a derelict one and build your own version of Jabba's Palace. Too small minded? Take over a whole planet as your very own. Heck, a whole STAR SYSTEM. Just be sure you can defend it... because... pirates.
Schema (the coder) is constantly updating and tweaking the program. It's fun to play as-is, but I'm looking forward to new updates.
How Star-Made is like Minecraft:
Everything is blocks. You salvage (mine) blocks from space ships, asteroids, space stations and planets. Or you craft blocks from component parts. You can build with the raw blocks and power your creations. Your builds can be stationary (on a planet/asteroid) or mobile (in space or even a ground vehicle). Mods are already being created for the game.
How Star-Made is not like Minecraft:
... SPACE SHIPS. Supernovas. Planets. Pirates. An economy. Factions built-in.
Overall? I say give it a try... what the heck, it's free! I've spent a lot of hours making pretty ships. Now I need to learn to outmaneuver those damned pirates. Happy flying!
