Often times I see on this site people asking for subscribers, diamonds, comments, and favorites. Other times I see people asking for help in all the wrong manners. Or, my personally favorite: people doing any of the aforementioned, with atrocious spelling and grammer. So, I figured I'd post a guide to the internet, and how to gain success on Planet Minecraft.
Rule Number One:Don't ask for any form of up-vote at the beginning of your entry
From time to time, people will ask for "diamond this!" at the very beginning of an entry. You know what I do when I read this? I click the back button immediately. Asking for diamond and up-votes it alright, if done correctly. If you ask for it directly, it makes you seem greedy to some people, and you have just lost yourself a customer. A safe way to ask for an up-vote is something like "Like my work? Check out my page!". This give the reader the idea you have more to show off, and can easily get you a up-vote from this: along with a subscriber if you realy do have stuff to show off!
Rule Number Two: Don't post "sub 4 sub"s
This again falls under the topic of "greedy" from rule one. Again, trying to get more subscribers is fine and dandy, but you have to watch what you do! Asking for trades like that may get you some subscribers, but it won't get you the subscribers you deserve: the one who actually like your work!
Rule Number Three: Wtch ur spllin!
Nothing will lose you viewers like a badly-spelt submission! Nothing. Well...expect maybe one that is extremely offenses...but more on that later. Spelling is a major key to success in today's society. Those of you with poor spelling may think other wise, but trust the rest of the world on this: trying to read something with bad grammer makes reading it hard. And when reading something become difficult, people tend to lose interest, and ignore the content. So how can you improve this? Theres a few ways. You could type up your submission on a program like Word prior to posting as to check your spelling and grammer. You could also get an internet browser that allows for in-browser spell-check (ie Firefox, Opera, Chrome). Still need some help? Hope on over to jgsampso blog on How to use proper grammar on the internet.
Rule Number Four: Careful what you say
The internet is massive. So massive, in fact, that every website you go to has the prefix of WWW, which (for those of you who don't know) means world wide web. With that said, there are millions of user who have access to everything on the internet (expect for the Chinese...bloody Great Firewall of China...). And with millions of users, comes hundreds of races, cultures, religions, and personal backgrounds. And like I said earlier, a sure-fire way to lose viewers is to post something offense to ones own race, culture, religion, or personal background. This is usually a common sense thing to avoid: no swearing, no derogatory terms, no down-sizing others faith, and no extremists symbols (swastika, broken crosses, etc)
Rule Number Five: Don't be direct with threats!
This one I see all the time on Planet Minecraft, and I myself have been caught doing this: announcing your actions. This is another example of "use common sense". If it's going to be viewed as a good act to everyone, then by all means, announce it! but don't be cocky about it (ie "I did this! Aren't I the greatest? I deserve diamonds!"). But if it can be viewed as a bad act to anyone, by all means, keep it under wraps! For example, flagging submissions on Planet Minecraft for rules that have been broken is fine (and I think I can safely say this) and is appreciated by the staff of PMC (so long as it is a ligament claim, not a "I hate this guy...lets get him inj trouble!" act). And with that said, this leads me to my final rule...
Rule Number Six: Read the rule and Terms of Use!
People often times get their submissions taken down for one of many reasons, but nine times out of ten, its because they broke the rules somewhere. The funny thing about this particle rule is that it's a gimme. Every site you apply to has some form of a terms of use, and most sites have a registration set up in such a manner that you have to read the terms of use before you get to actually make your account! For example, Planet Minecraft has their term of use rigged in with your account creation via a radio box that you have to check. Sure, you can check it without reading it, but here's the interesting part:Your use of any content presented in any and all areas of the website indicates your acknowledgment and agreement to these Terms of Use. That means if your able to leave a comment on this, then you have agreed to the Terms of Use. Congrats! Another interesting thing with the terms of use is this:The information distributed in conjunction with this website is offered to you on your acceptance of these Terms of Use, our Privacy Policy and other notices posted on this website. That means that these rules also applies to anyone who has an account on this site. Although I use Planet Minecraft for my rant about rules, this copies over to ever site you use (not these rules, of course, but the principle of following each sites respect rules)
Hopefully the people that need this read it, and the people who don't need it, appreciate it. Thanks for reading, and happy surfing!
