This is not a lore story, and it's not part of the same continuity as any of my other stories. The best way to discribe it would be as a jab at my inability to write horror.
When you brew an unrecognizable potion, never throw it into the water. One old witch in a swamp biome learned this the hard way after a long and expensive night of potion brewing. After the night was over and her brewing ingredients were depleted, all that was left at the bottom of her cauldron was a sticky green substance that stank horribly. Disgusted, she scraped the stuff out and dropped it into the swamp. The next morning she woke up to a terrible smell. The water around her hut had turned an unhealthy green, and it was much murkier than before. The green patch of water was very large, and it grew throughout the day, attracting slimes from all over the swamp. The green sludgy water seemed to corrupt the slimes, and make them more aggressive, so that they began to fight one another. As they fought, they broke into smaller and smaller slimes, then eventually melting into green goo, adding to the mass of the spreading slime plague. The witch dropped a leather boot into the sludge. It melted. Before three days had passed, the witch's hut was gone, and the witch with it.
The slime was spreading faster now, eating all the organic matter it could find. By the time it had filled up the swamp and reached the ocean, it was far too large to ignore. Soon, it was evaporating into the clouds, and raining down all over the world. At first, the nether and end were safer alternatives, but not for long. The goop proved immune to the nether’s intense heat after creeping through portals and merging with the magma cubes it met on it’s onslaught. Eventually, it even slid into strongholds and spread to the end, feasting on chorus fruits and knocking down the ancient end cities. No one was safe, and all was consumed by the slime that ate everything...
