The Sponge? Taken Or Leaven?

So everybody knows about the Sponge, and if you don't that wouldn't surprise me. The sponge is not used for anything nor do i think it has ever been used for anything. I heard that in maybe Alpha or Beta that it sucked up water, but that comes to my surprise because i do not remember it doing anything in Beta. The sponge is rarely used for a "decoration" block in marvelous and fantastic buildings. So should it be taken out in the next update or should it actually do something? Maybe it can suck up water in a 4x4 area. But with all these updates with horse's and carpet's it should be able to do something to coincide with all the item's. Should it let horses have yellow spotted armor? You decide, leave your idea in the comment section

Replace that with the stone slab smooth block instead. There was a recipe book mod that incorporated the decorated stone block made out of 4 stone slabs, and get stone chiseled slab, then combine 4 of that item, you get 4 decorated stone block.
