First let me qualify this by saying that I hate thieves. I absolutely f*cking hate them. They steal from others, people who have worked hard to get what they have, without remorse. They are one of the lowest forms of life humanity has generated.
Over the course of my time here at planetminecraft I have made several large star trek build submission avaible for others to download and enjoy. I did this so that folks could share in the joy that is both minecraft and star trek. I know that since I was a little kid I have always wanted to tour the ships I had seen in the TV shows and on the big screen and Minecraft has given us that ability.
The minetrek project, forget the guys name but just youtube minecraft enterprise and you'll see his video, set the gears in motion with his awesome build. The team that worked with him created one of the most epic builds to date in minecraft. I figured if they could do it so could I. To those ends I started work on the USS Nova. Eventually, after many versions, I refined my skill to the point where I actually made a build that looked like the actual ship.
Following that success I started in on the USS Intrepid and USS Constitution. I released these builds for public consumption here, at the official minecraft forums and MCschematics site. I never in my wildest dreams would have ever thought that what would follow could, or would ever happen.
Since releasing these builds I have been inundated with reports of credit for my work being stolen. Hell I have even been accused of stealing my work by people who came here after seeing it on another site.
My work has been featured in PC Gamer Digital edition Episode 6 back in November. I am listed as its creator there, and on the official minecraft forms, planetminecraft, and minecraft schematics web sites. And has even been mentioned in a recent episode of BeVopVox's Minecraft Monday Show.
So imagine my surprise when a fellow minecrafter sent me a link to machinima's Top 5 Minecraft Spaceship builds of all time featuring my build of the USS Constitution as their number 5 submission having been submitted and claimed by some one else. Again someone had stolen credit for my work.
Of all the affronts this one was the worse. Given how prevalent the knowledge is that I am the creator of that build, one would expect that this point that it would be relatively easy to identify a false claim of credit.
However that isn't the case. I complained to Machinima about it and all they seem to have done up to this point has been to remove all of my posts, and ignore my communications.
UPDATE: Since posting this blog, and thanks to the many supporters and friends here, Machinima has taken action to correct the issue. Much thanks to all of you, planetminecraft, and Machinima.
The ship is not the Enterprise, but actually, as seen in the video, the USS Constitution. While I really don't care if people make videos of my builds I do care if they attempt to lay claim to them as their own work. I put a lot of effort into my builds and generally don't appreciate it when they show up in videos where other people are credited as being their creators. I am sure you all can understand that.
Now I am not alone in my disgust for credit thieves and glory hounds. We all know that these low life bottom feeders exist and there really isn't much we can do about it say demand that we the people of the world have the right to perform post birth abortions, which I won't do. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to do it to a lot of people, but I couldn't live with myself if I did. So I ma reduced to being a keyboard warrior and bitching about what pisses me off in a blog that no one will likely ever read.
The minecraft community in general are a group of stand up people who will flag every instance of theft that they see. They are not afraid to call these glory hounds out and for that we are all thankful.
Now it angers me greatly that machinima won't correct the information regarding my build, and that says a lot about them, but really there isn't much that can be done at this point. The damage has been done and in the wake of it, all I can hope for is that more people are aware of the fact that there is a problem with credit thievery going on.
I would hope that people would choose to create their own unique builds instead of stealing credit for others. There is no joy in taking credit for something that isn't yours and can easily be proven as such with a simple google search. All that does is make you out to be a troll and, in my honest opinion, a sincere loathsome peace of shit.
