CHAPTER 7

Once again, Chad broke the silence.

"My name's Chad Roth," he whispered. I looked up at him. "I'm 19. I live in the town Smelts. I don't have any family or friends either. I want to be an adventurer as well but never got the chance until now."

"You still don't have it as rough." I said after a while.

"You can think what you want, but you at least have something to do. Nothing but adventuring interests me. I just do what I have to do to make it though the day."

"Out of the people I know, I have the worst life."

"You must not know a lot of people." Chad said. He's right. I don't. ARE there people who have an even worse life than me? I don't even know how that's possible... "Why do you think you have no friends?" he continued.

"I don't know... I never made an effort, I guess."

"Me neither. But I at least have a reason. I hate everyone in my town. They're just really inconsiderate." he took a pause. "You should try to make some friends. You seem nice enough."

"I'm not nice."

"Don't say things like that. Of course you're nice. Why would you continuously be hired for babysitting jobs if you weren't nice? The kids wouldn't like you if you're not nice."

"If I'm 'nice', why do I have no friends?"

"Like you said, you never made an effort. If you did, I bet you'd be one of the most popular people in your town. Villages know everyone already."

"You think so?" Maybe this guy isn't that bad after all...

"Yes, I really do."

"Thanks." I looked at the sky just then. Oh no! "Crap! It's getting dark! We have no wood or anything to make a house and there's no villages in sight! What are we going to do?" Chad took a look around. Then his face lit up.

"I have an idea." he said. Then he went off running around the desert and destroying cacti. A couple minutes later, there was no cactus left and Chad came running back over. "I... have... cactus..." he said, out of breath.

"So? How is that going to solve our problem?"

"We... take... the... cactus," he said, still out of breath. But I think he caught it now. "And... make it into a house. That ways no mobs can hurt us. They'd be stop by the cactus. And we can make a door out of sand, so it's easier to get out."

"Chad! You're a genius!" I hugged him for a couple seconds, then I let go. "And I think I have some torches that I brought from my house..." I started rummaging through my bag. "Yes! I have two! We won't die tonight!" Chad started laughing. I think that's the first time any of us had laughed since we started this mission. I laughed too.

"We have to get started," he said, "if we don't want to have mobs after us while we're building."

"We should. Pass me some of the cactus." And we got to work. In 2 minutes we were done. It was dark by now, but now mobs were after us yet. The cactus house was just big enough for us to not be killed by it. We dug up to sand blocks for the door and walked inside. Then we put the sand blocks down on the door. Phew. We made it just in time. I put my torches on the sand ground and the place was lit up.

"Now what?" I said, "We can't go to sleep. We don't have any beds."

Chad smiled. "Well, I guess we have to get to know each other some more."

So all through the night we talked. We took turns talking, he'd say something about himself, then I would say something about myself. We really learned a lot; I could look at him a lot differently now. He didn't seem so much as a horrible person. More like a good friend. Did... did I just say he was a friend? I HAVE A FRIEND!

The sun started to rise and all the monsters were dying. It was safe to go outside again. It's been two days now, out of the 5 days I'm giving myself. Which means, we have to get to the temple today. I don't think that's going to happen though. I'll just have to deal with it. Let them think I'm dead. I can surprise them when I return. Or, no one's going to check on me. I don't know which one is better though. If no one checks on me, then I don't have anyone who really cares. On the other hand, no one would think I'm dead. If someone does check on me, that means they do care, but they would probably think I WAS dead. So... I really don't know.

We kept walking. We couldn't risk running, we didn't have a lot of food and it would take too much time off our hands to kill any animals that do spawn in the desert.

Charlie wasn't kidding when he said this was the biggest desert. We haven't even reached the center yet, where the temple is. We better be close. I once heard Minecraftia keeps going, it never ends. Land just keeps on spawning in. That means this temple could be days away. The max time I want to find it is by tomorrow. Please by tomorrow! Charlie wouldn't have waited this long to send us out, so most of Spawner would have died out already by the time we got whatever-the-healing-stuff-is to the town, would he? Or, what if we completely passed it, didn't even see it somehow? That can't be possible. It's the biggest temple in Minecraftia... but what if only by a few feet? We might be heading in the right direction, but we're not in the center. We might not even see it when we pass it. The first time since my mom and dad died, I felt scared.
