Here and there, people say things like: "That video game is rotting your brain" or "Wow, enjoy being a murderer on that game." Well guess what? Nothing is wrong with it. If I'm the legal age to play M rated games, I can play those. If I play a game for 2+ hours, I don't get brain damage. If it doesn't have any negative effect on you, then you can do it. It's your choice. With a few exceptions:
Besides that, we only see local media and internet articles blamming games for school shootings and acts of violence. Well jeez, I guess TV, Books, History, The Internet, Comic Books, Radio, Music, Stories, The News, and even Life don't anything violent in them. Games may feature gore and guns, but just the other day I watched an episode of The Walking Dead featuring 2x the gore and guns.
So why are games blamed for this? Oh, it's simple... games are imature and dumb according to news networks and unhappy parents. Yeah, it's not as if anything thrilling (Uncharted), exciting (Titanfall), ro complex (Metal Gear Solid) can ever come out of interactive art. No, these news programs with all their exciting Twitter conversations and uneducated opinions are so much better.
Anyways, I just want to point out how people shouldn't blame video games for problems caused by forces we can't control or stop. It's just entertainment, not a Satanist cult that wants all generations to be mindless murderers.

Video Games are not a Waste of Time
Don't Blame Video Games
- When games interrupt important life events/ duties (education, family, career's, etc.)
- When you have a hard time not playing the game.
- When you don't do anything besides play that game.
- When you lack of moving does physically affect you.
- When the game's content is not legal to view at your age. (I don't give a damn how mature you are.)

*cough* I like that you included the exception list. Very often people disregard the fact that gaming addiction is real. Games, just like alcohol, drugs or gambling, have the power to destroy lives and families. Are games inherently evil? Hell no. Do they have the potential to turn your life into a horrible mess? Oh yes. Can they make some psycho go all trigger-happy at a local kindergarten? Mmmmmaybe. Can they make a normal, sane person go all trigger-happy? Again, hell no.
