Due to technical difficulties (and by 'technical difficulties' I mean utter chaotic and unending loudness) this week's video will be abridged.  Don't rage, it's okay.  We'll be back next week in the regular format.  :P

BlockWorks!  You know them, I know them; the question is: what have they created this week?  Well, it just so happens that the best structure of the week was Code Red, a map created by (you guessed it) BlockWorks!



Unlike what BlockWorks usually builds (massive futuristic cityscapes), this time it’s a horror survival map.  Code Red is a massive scientific facility built on Mars.  Sound a little bit like Doom?  That’s because it’s exactly like Doom.



Yes, it turns out that the scientists were experimenting on alien organisms and (just like every horror film in this genre), one of them escapes and kills everybody.  Now you are tasked with taking a quaint stroll through the halls of death, destruction, and horror.  Sound fun?



This map is particularly brilliant due to the dark ambient vibe that saturates the environment.  It’s dark, gloomy, and filled with disturbing organic figures hanging from chains, or suspended in a glass container.  It’s downright creepy.



As always, BlockWorks has constructed a large, complex, futuristic mega structure filled with detail beyond belief.  This time, however, it falls upon you to explore it.  The screenshots alone don’t even begin to capture to delights and distress you will find within.

The best terraforming of the week was a massive tundra terrain titled Peltonia, created by kesteve.  That’s right, after months of inactivity, kesteve has returned to share some more of his terraforming mastery!



Peltonia is a simple, but beautiful little chunk of terraforming, particularly due to the composition.  In the center is a vast, snow-caked field with hundreds of custom evergreens.  The trees are coated with a thin layer of snow, giving them a textured appearance.



To the northeast lies an icy mountain range, and to the southwest a mountainous island amongst a frozen lake.  As I said, the composition is perfectly laid out, and the transition from mountain to plane to water and back to mountain is very smart.



But that’s only half the spectacle.  Peltonia also has a summer seasonal equivalent.  In this rendition, the trees are uncovered and green, the mountains adopt a rocky texture, and the lake is thawed.  There’s even a thin strip of sand on the shores of the mainland.



Overall, this map is beautiful, and the inclusion of a summertime alternate landscape was a great idea.  As always, kesteve has demonstrated that he has a very canny understanding of how to make small landscapes shine brighter than mega-terrains.

I don’t even know where to begin with this one.  The best organic work of the week was something mind-blowingly epic, while at the same time quirky and weird.  And that map is called Battle of Zetura, created by Eclesiast.



It appears that somebody (let’s say the evil Lord Xenu) has created a portal to another dimension.  What comes out of the portal?  A giant galactic stingray with a head-mounted laser cannon.  What were you expecting?



The stingray has challenged a nearby star cruiser to a duel of champions.  The winner gets dibs on the nearby asteroids, which appear to be filled with a strange purple substance.  Let’s just pretend the purple goo is space mana.



Space mana, as it turns out, is worth hundreds of billions of dollars on the black market.  So, obviously, the ensuing battle is going to be pretty intense.  Who will win?  Will the space mana bring the victor a vast fortune?  What the hell is the point of that nifty space station hanging out in the background?  I don’t have the answers to these questions.



Regardless, this map is an intergalactic masterpiece!  The space cruiser is excellent and covered in weapons, domes, and other technological goodies, the stingray is a masterfully executed organic figure, and the asteroids are fantastic as well.  Oh, and the ambiguous space station is nice also.



In the end, this map does a great job of imparting a feeling of impending destruction upon the viewer.  It’s clear that whatever is about to happen will be something disastrously noteworthy.
