Steve notices the monsters behind him, so he turns around and is frightened. He quickly goes up to the chest to grab his sword and meets the zombie and spider down the ladder. He slays these monsters, thus continuing to try and mine the ore.

It doesn't make sense... The zombie threw the ladder into the lava, so how did steve get it back? Did he happen to have ladders in his inventory?
