This blog post will tell you about just about everything to come in Minecraft 1.5

BUD Switch: All that is currently known about the BUD Switch is that it may be added in the redstone update. Besides that there is no texture, no physics, or any other information.

Daylight Sensor- The daylight detector sends a redstone signal corresponding to the light level. Depending on the light level, the daylight sensor will give a redstone signal depending on the light level. For example, during the day, the daylight detector will give a 15 block signal, and during the night, it will give a 5 block signal. An inverted redstone signal can be used as a night detector.

Hopper- Hoppers are used to catch entities and store them in a 5 block storage, or it will automatically place the entity inside a chest. Hoppers can be placed in a consecutive pipe leading to a chest. If there are 2 or more chests adjacent to a hopper, the hopper will alternate placing items in the chests. If a hopper is below a storage object then it will take items out of the storage ,and place it in its own inventory.

Nether Quartz Ore- Nether quartz is the first ore to be implemented in Minecraft that is found in the Nether. Nether quartz can be mined with a wooden pickaxe ,and will drop 1 nether quartz. Nether quartz is as abundant as iron would be in the overworld. Nether quartz is used to craft a comparator and a daylight sensor.

Block of Redstone- Blocks of redstone power all adjacent redstone powered objects. Redstone torches turn off when placed on blocks of redstone. Blocks of redstone is also good as redstone storage. Redstone can be converted back to 9 redstone.

Redstone Comparator- Originally announced as a capacitor, the comparator has 2 inputs, input A and input B. If input B is more powerful than input A, there will be no output. If input A is more powerful, then Input A will continue the redstone signal as it would. The comparator also functions as a subtractor. For example, if input A has a signal of 15 and input B has a signal of 10, then the output will have a signal of 5. Input A must be more powerful than input B for the subtractor to work.

Weighted Pressure Plate- Weighted pressure plates function much like regular pressure plates, except only entities can activate them. The redstone signal output is altered by how many objects are on the pressure plate. Weighted pressure plates come in 2 forms. Light (gold) and heavy (iron). Light pressure plates reaches a full output when 60 items are placed on it. Weighted pressure plates reaches a full output when roughly 10 stacks of items are placed upon it.

Heavy pressure plates are crafted the same way as light pressure plates ,but with iron.

Trapped Chest- Trapped chests work the same way chests and large chests do. Except, when you open a trapped chest, it will generate a redstone signal. This would normally be a good trap ,except since a chest is slightly smaller than a block, it is possible to see under or behind it to see redstone. It would be hard to notice the hole under, unless you always check first anyway.

Nether Brick- Nether brick can be obtained by smelting netherrack. Placing 4 nether bricks on a crafting table (much the way a brick block is crafted) will give you 1 nether brick block.
