Why Creative Mode Is Better Than Survival - An Opinion Article By SoggyTractor

Saying that o survival mode sucks and bores me to deatho on a public server is like tossing yourself into a hole full of creepers and white-hot TNT. Ito s a bold statement to make, and one that nearly every Minecraft player will strongly disagree with. Especially considering that, PVP and hunger games aside, nearly all of the few hundred most popular servers are survival ones.

Yes, they do have plot worlds but the good builders prefer to go to creative-dedicated servers. And those exist in the form of Mithrintia, Lumia, CN, Vareide, and a few other small communities, which generally don't get many players or much attention. Ito s safe to say that the world enjoys survival mode much more than creative.

And I can understand this. Building in survival mode is more o rewardingo , and one can simply switch modes to accomplish the more tedious tasks. But this defeats the purpose of being in survival mode. And personally, I find all tasks in survival mind-numbingly tedious.

Once you have full diamond armour, a chest full of food and stacks of ores, then what? Then comes o the challenge of buildingo , you might say. I disagree. For me, then comes the point when you realise how much more you could achieve in creative mode. In that, you could experiment with different materials, create the mansion you've always dreamed of having, go to the ends of your imagination and re-create the most amazing structures on the planet.

For me, thereo s no reward in building this with survival mode. Ito s the opposite of rewarding. Why let yourself fall to your death, get killed by mobs and lose all your items in lava when you know you could be making something 10 times bigger and better, 10 times as fast? My reward comes when I post a build on PMC and marvel at how good it looks, rather than at how much time and effort went into it.

I also found survival mode to be genuinely more addictive. And not in a good way. After a couple of hours of playing, the mentality is: o One more block...one more exploration...one more stack of wood...one more mining expedition...one more block...just one more...and another.o And then, bang, ito s four hours later and you have back problems, square eyes and pins and needles. Building in creative mode is quicker and easier to regulate, thus less addictive and less severe for your health. Not that any Minecraft player cares about that. But still.

Moreover, being rooted to the ground, with no flying abilities and no way of truly discovering the world around you, is a pain. Why waste your time and stick to the earth when you could soar into the sky? In creative mode, you still have the mystery of whato s underneath the grass, while feeling a greater sense of liberation as you can fly anywhere and discover the perfect place on the landscape for building whatever you want.

Lets not forget that Minecraft has a o Crafto in it. Perhaps, instead of referring to items you can craft using a table, it means crafting whatever you can imagine on a larger scale. And before you go ranting at me about all the amazing things you've o craftedo in survival mode that prove me an idiot for writing this article, just remember that 99% of things ever to appear on the PMC project pop reel are probably built in creative mode. Take a look at those projects and calculate how much time it would take to reach that level of awesomeness in survival mode.

Even if you dono t like building, and have all the artistic talent of a duck, there's still so much to do in creative. Look at all the mini-games that you can more easily play in creative: pig racing, archery, boat racing, mini-golf, villager football, parkour, quick-build challenge, assault course, maze runs, horse racing, hide and seek, trivia courses, redstone racing, etc.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't ever play in survival mode again. Io m merely referring to the ones who say, o creative mode is pointless, why would I ever use that?o and pointing out what they've missed. Not many people give creative mode a chance because they don't understand it, despite the fact that we could have entire servers dedicated to the activities I've mentioned above.

Whatever you want to do, maybe you could look into joining a creative server or creating one for yourself. Who knows. It could be much more fun. Essentially, what's the point of feeling 'the experience' of survival mode when you could actually get something out of Minecraft by boosting your creativity?

Well, I can see the point of your opinion and I respect it.
However, I like to think of Minecraft like natural life.
In life, you aren't born with an infinite supply of building materials.
If you play on peaceful and survival at the same time, it will start to feel like real life. (Unlike some of the basic stuff like night and day are like 5-10 minutes each :/).
I want to gather the resources and use them and apply them on my buildings. I don't want to be born with them.

What heresy is this?! How could you post this?! Jokes, jokes. I somewhat agree with you, and I definitely see your point. I just love building structures for the Halo: Ultimate mod, and after building for ages look upon the massive, gray cube and think to myself, "How fun would it be looting this in a newly-spawned survival world?" :) I hope you guys will love that cube too!

'somewhat'? you 'somewhat agree' with me? D: That ^ would not be fun building in survival mode. Fun to loot, yes, but not to build. So you must agree with me 10000%. ;3

I've never played survival :(
Though if you don't have friends in a survival PVP multiplayer server, you're dead already.
The thing with big survival servers is that while everyone already has diamond enchanted gear, you have a leather chest plate, that's why almost nobody new joins.
There was sugarbuns server, which was a lovely helpful server, and I know there are many others. Just look

Yeah, I hate starting from scratch in survival. But it was fun the first time, I guess. You might wanna try it on single player and then take what you learn onto servers and beat those suckers.
