Best GPU for Dell Optiplex 760
What is the best GPU (that works) for the Dell Optiplex 760 Desktop?
Mine the is Desktop (DT) which means the card would have to be low profile.
I'd like to be able to play Minecraft with shaders at an acceptable framerate.

Everything with the same socket is fine.
That's not completely true with LGA 775. For instance, I doubt a Pentium 4 will work in a G41 board.

I'm trying to find a list of what CPU's are supported with this...

The best CPU you can put in it is likely a Core 2 Quad Q9650, though I'm not sure if your motherboard chipset can support it.
EDIT: There are OptiPlex 760's out there with Q9550's, so I'd assume a Q9650 will work.
Also I just now realized I was suggesting dual cores in my previous post. Derp.

Scarsz_caLeeTheENTPAlso wondering - Can I put an Intel core i3 in there without having to change the factory PSU?
You're talking about a 30 watt difference. CPU + GPU using ~110W, you're leaving ~115W for the rest of the PC, 130W if you're lucky. Realistically, you should be good, but don't hold me liable if you need to upgrade the PSU. You probably won't. Really, that CPU is what's holding that GPU back. Keep in mind though, it's not some top of the line GPU, released back in mid 2013.

Here is a driver download http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverRe ... 5033/en-us i would recommend using DDU to completely uninstall the drivers. http://www.wagnardmobile.com/?q=node/82 After you use DDU then restart your pc and reinstall the driver.

I already have the latest drivers; I know this because the Geforce experience application thing says my drivers are up-to-date

Did you uninstall the AMD graphics driver and software?

Yes
Now, the computer says it's playing at around 500fps however it has lag spikes sometimes and really feels like 30 fps more than 500. I've tried it with vsync on and off and it does the same thing. It just feels choppy..
Also, If I have Minecraft open, I pretty much can't open anything else (I used to be able to). When I open chrome with Minecraft running, it freezes like crazy.

Have you bought it from newegg? If so then you can get a replacement. I would try getting the drivers from amd's website. If you did that then try uninstalling java and minecraft and reinstalling it.(Backup any servers saves etc.)

I did buy it from newegg. Also, do you mean get the drivers from Nvidias website? It's a GTX 750 ti.

This is the very best you can do with that system: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/3hPzK8/ ... 0ti2gd5tlp
There is only one expansion slot available for a PCIe card, but there's room above it to support a dual-slot cooler.
If your computer doesn't already have a quad core in it, I suggest upgrading the CPU to this. There are better CPUs for the socket, but this is the best one before the price spikes. The E8600 is $16 and up.

So I just got the GPU, put it in, and ran Minecraft and I am completely unsatisfied. Unlike my last card (Radeon R7 240) that got 60 FPS and was smooth, this card is getting 20-30FPS, getting lag spikes, and generally being almost unplayable. I have installed the right drivers and have updated them however the card is playing absolutely horrible. I really hope it's something I can fix? If this is how it normally plays, I'd rather just throw this thing away because it plays like my computers' integrated graphics. I know the card itself is a good card, so I think theres something wrong here.

Thank you! I bought the GPU however I'm not able to buy the CPU.

If your budget is $450 then I'd recommend getting a new case and a full size GPU. Check first that your motherboard is a standard form factor and not some weird Dell version of mATX.

I want to try to not use the money to get anything else. I'd like to know the best card for the current case.
