Building a new rig... Whatcha think?
Old rig is outdated, deciding on building a new one, budget is $2,000, I can go $100 over. This is what I currently have.

Basically the same as Randomness3333's build, except with some minor differences:
1. Cheaper motherboard:
2. More HDD space
3. Only 1, better GPU than 2, worse GPUs
4. Smaller PSU
5. Cheaper optical drive

I have the same motherboard in my build; I built in July i will warn you once you setup your pc don't install the gigabyte APP-center or any of APPS as part of that CD that come as a CD-ROM with the board .Because of the fact that at random times it changes your pc time randomly to 12/31/1899. Just a friendly warning. Also that gigabyte motherboard has a built in Ethernet port so you don't have to have the extra Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/100/1000 Mbps PCI-Express x1 Network Adapter.

Top of your budget editing plus gaming rig. Will be sufficient for 1440p high/ultra settings @ 60fps in many games and 60 fps on high/medium @ 4k in some games. If you are only playing at 1080p single R9 290 will be fine.

windows 8 sucks
1
In what ways? You don't like how it looks? How it performs? How it feels? Explain why it sucks, please.
1
Can you explain why? Or did you just make that up?

This build is extremely overkill. I only would suggest this build for a heavy workstation.
1
If his budget is 2k and a few hundreds. I don't see why he can't go overkill with the build. Its in his price range. And if it makes him happy, so be it.

All seems good, just get a Corsair 100i or another water cooled cpu.
1
1. You don't need 16 GB of ram for gaming.
2. You have a OCing build but have a half decent cooler. Just get a h100i
3. Get a R9 290 instead of a 780. The 780 TI is not strong enough to be worth the extra cost.
4. Get windows 8. Windows 7 supports ends in a couple of months.
5. You don't need a wired network adapter.

Microsoft is not cancelling all support for Windows 7 in a few months. They are only likely to cancel the mainstream support. Extended support will continue until 2020. And based on how they stopped supporting Windows XP, they are most likely going to push the mainstream support deadline further down the line, considering it is the most popular OS now and is installed on over 50% of PCs around the world.

I'm not the biggest fan of windows 8 either.

1. Who said this was only for gaming?
2. Alright.
3. What's the cost difference?
4. Alright.
5. I need both for now, In about 5 or 6 months I'll be switching over from wireless to wired, so I need both.

1. Assuming it's for gaming because of the 4690k.
3. 150+ dollars. the 290 is faster in almost every game, while being cheaper.
5. Motherboards come with a ethernet port, so no need for a wired adapter.

Alright, thanks.

1. Unless you're editing in 4K you really don't need more then 8 GB.
3.it is around $150 difference.
5. Your MOBO has on board wired networking
