5 minutes ago, I was just doing some solo-survival building a basement when i heard this creepy laughing/cackling sound.
I don't have any creepy mods install, only Pixelmon, Minecraft comes Alive, Timber and Wildcaves3. and i'm pretty sure none of these mods add a sound like this.

Did anyone else heard it aswell?
Does it come from one of the mods?

If anyone could answer this topic, that would be great!

The witch from minecraft makes a cackling noise every once in a while. That is what you heard.

It's a witch. Often when you're mining underground, you'll hear a witch.

The cackling sound might be the ambience, and the creepy sound maybe comes from a witch. If you listen carefully sometimes his laugh can be creepy

Could it be a witch? Idk, I have heard some weird sounds like that too, and I found a witch in the hollow walls of a house. Not a great idea to make hollow walls.

I have heard the noise too and i was digging above ground, no caves around. One of the staff on the server came to check it out and they heard it as well. There were no mobs around so couldn't have been a Witch or anything. I haven't heard it since.

I've heard that laughing sound too while I was digging in a mine.

Know this is old but still throwing in my two cents. I have heard the noise and its freaky, sounds kinda like a creepy little girl laugh in the beginning and then it starts becoming distorted and getting lower at the end. Don't know what it is but I looked at all the ambience noises and couldn't find it and I looked all over youtube to see if anyone had recorded it but couldn't find it.

I've heard the laugh/cackle sound numerous times. Thought it was a witch nearby at first, but now I'm pretty sure it's just some sort of ambient sound or, as others suggested, perhaps an Easter Egg of some sort. I don't run any of the mods you have, so I'm pretty sure it's in vanilla.

I think you heard the ambience sounds "demonic roar" and "engine" a little bit off.

Pixelmon mobs have creepy/weird noises. One of them is a cackling sound.

Okay, well, I know he's not Lying, I was working on a build It was under ground and I was in creative, i have no mods installed. I was fixing up a small piece and I heard a quiet laughing sound, it spooked me so i shut down the game. This is a creepy easter egg..

Ok I know exactly what you mean by laughing. I have searched the internet for someone else who heard it. I have NO MODS installed at all. Nothing just pure normal minecraft. Now listen, I made a new world and went into a cave. I started hearing a loud highish pitched laughing then I heard sorta like a ghost's moan but it was kinda low and long. I looked at all the ambiances and NONE of the sounds were any like the ones I heard. I thought it was a new mob at first and I looked at the mobs but none matched. I think it should be nice to know you arent the only one who experienced this. Spooky!

It could also be the enderman scream when you first look at them. It does have a bit of crackle to it.

ok so if your in a basement then its probably someone trolling you, i have heard cracking noises but there ether from shorting speakers or crapy headphones

Probably ambience, as others have said.

I hate those ambience noises, I always take off my headphones whenever I head towards a dark place. I wish there was a way to turn off those ambience noises without having to let go of other noises.

Ambiance dude i heard it just turn sound off

There are creepy sounds that are built in to the game that play when you're in an area with a light level of 7 or lower called Ambience. That might have been it; I think there is a "cackling" sound.
