Disappearing chest

Has anyone come across this? It's not the invisible glitch that I've seen mentioned.
I placed a double chest and filled it and when I started the game again it was invisible. I have to break a block adjacent to it for it to appear. But it's invisible every time I start.

That is somewhat retarded. Is it on a server? If so, I would blame plugins for it.
If it is in singleplayer however, I haven't a clue. Sounds like it is appearing when you update a block near to it.
Try breaking it and placing it again.
