Hey all! I have an old dinosaur of a computer that can hardly run any games, I'm looking into building a new computer. Since I have very limited knowledge of what good PC components are (I only really know how to put together a computer), I'm looking to turn to the good, smarter side of PMC for help! I'm mainly going to use this PC for gaming as I have a separate laptop for schoolwork, so it needs to be of reasonable high performance.

TL;DR
I want PMC's advice on a new computer. It should be able to run Far Cry 4 on Max or at least decent settings. Budget is anything < $1000

Cheers!

EDIT: I'm also going to be using this PC for rendering and editing, if that changes anything

Don't go with that.

1) It's $500 USD
2) There are better CPUs for the price
3) RAM is overpriced
4) There are better cases for the price
5) The PSU is small if you plan on upgrading in the future
6) Even if you want to upgrade, AMD has a pretty bad upgrade path.

Here, check this out instead:

Yes, I know it costs quite a lot, but it's better because:

1) Way better CPU
2) Motherboard with the ability to upgrade to 5th gen Broadwell CPUs later on.
3) Cheapest RAM with a heatspreader
4) Way better GPU
5) Better case
6) 600W PSU that give you the ability to upgrade later and if you want, to overclock too.

Threw Windows 8 in there because Windows 7 support ends soon and it isn't worth getting it right now.

Get a better motherboard. That one isn't high quality and will limit overclocking and lacks many features.
Overpriced RAM.
Bad SSD.
970 isn't worth 80$ over the 290 IMO.
That is too expensive for the 230T. you can get a much better case for that price.
Should get a better PSU for this budget.
You can get a better wifi connector for only a little more.

What is this computer going to be used for?
List what you will be doing with your computer.
What is your budget?
Include amount and currency.
Where do you live? If in the US, do you have a nearby Microcenter?
Your country lets us know what sites you can order from. If you have a nearby Microcenter they have some great in-store only deals that you can take advantage of.
What is included in the budget?
Things like the tower, the OS, peripherals and monitors.
Will you be overclocking?
Overclocking will require different hardware than a non-overclocking build so we need to know this.
Will you be reusing any parts?
If you are reusing parts list them here.
What OS do you want?
Say which OS you want or say if you already have a copy of one.
Any specific case preferences?
Size, color, etc.
Any other special features that you want in the build?
Stuff like an SSD, large hard drive, RAID, and wifi

Could you fill this out?
