WhimsicalTuber17Diamondcrafter_3 Anyways, Microsoft bought Mojang, NOT MINECRAFT!
Microsoft owns Mojang, Mojang owns Minecraft. Therefore, Micosoft owns Minecraft.
true, but that doesen't mean that they have rights to change the game. Only the developers can do that. Mojang is more or less now a "department of Microsoft". So, ya they do own Minecraft, just not the rights to change the game. (Now, I could be wrong at the same time)

He didn't say that they don't own it. He just said they didn't buy Minecraft. They bought Mojang, which controls Minecraft.

Relax everyone. Just because Notch left and Mojang now belongs to Microsoft does not mean that Minecraft will die. Minecraft is still in the hands of the game developers. Notch wasn't working on the game anyways. He even said he was at Mojang because he liked the culture there. Anyways, Microsoft bought Mojang, NOT MINECRAFT!

Scarention
A measly 2.5 Billion is pocket change for bill gates.
2.5 billion is a LOT. It's hard to truly understand how much money that really is. That's a lot even to Bill Gates

Foxy-snip for lengthies-
Umm...this thread wasn't addressing Bukkit or EULA stuff at all. It's talking about the Microsoft/Mojang exchange.

All you young'uns thinking Minecraft will die. *sigh*
It's not going to die, nor be screwed with by Microsoft. Mojang was bought by Microsoft, which means they will still be the Mojang team, just with Microsoft as their owners.
This basically just means they have more money to play around with. That's all.

CharliechoScarentionThis just in: Microsoft buys minecraft and discontinues Playstation support. Minecraft now a Xbox exclusive.
A measly 2.5 Billion is pocket change for bill gates.
Did you go to Mojang.com and read what they had to say about it? All editions (PC/Mac, Xbox 360/Xbox One, Pocket, PS3/PS4) will not be shut down.
It was supposed to be a joke

It is in no way dying. The community is still large and thriving and is constantly growing even as people leave. Even if you leave, which you're more than welcome to, more people will just arrive to take your place. Accounts are still being sold.
There are many people like me who play single player rather than multiplayer so things like the *DELAY* of the bukkit update don't affect us too much.
The EULA isn't going to kill multiplayer as so many people seem to think. There are literally thousands of quality servers that didn't rely on player donations to stay up and will continue to not rely on player donations (Why do so many people seem to forget this?!?). While many smaller, more exclusive and less known servers are affected by the EULA, there are still plenty to choose from
Bukkit and Spigot have not died (well really I can only say that for Bukkit. I have no idea what the deal is with Spigot). Mojang still owns bukkit. While Wesley might have sued to have his contribution to the code taken out, there's still a ton that remains, and now Microsoft owns this too. With the amount of people Microsoft has, redoing Bukkit will be nothing to them.
With the enormous amount Microsoft invested into buying Mojang, there's absolutely no way they can afford to do the things so many people are claiming that they'll do. Doing so would be very harmful to the company and they're not idiots over there. They've managed to publish many games that are very popular and they'll handle Minecraft well too.
All these "It's the end of minecraft!" claims are all based on horribly exaggerated theories that make no sense if you just take the time to step back and look at them.
