Wireless Redstone.
This is a topic about redstone (obviously) and below you will find a tutorial on how to do a wireless redstone light switch. Even farther below are a couple links to pictures.
Important
If you want to make a quick redstone creation, but it spans out really far, DON'T use stacks and stacks of redstone dust. Just use this!
1. Ok, first you're going to need a command block. (use 'give [username] minecraft:command_block')
2.place the command block down where it's connecting to a lever (light switch) on the wall.
3.in the command block GUI, type the command '/setblock [x] [y] [z] minecraft:redstone _block.
This should place a block of redstone at the [x] [y] [z] co-ordinates.
4. Have redstone leading to a redstone lamp placed where you want it.
5. Try it out.
You can use the same principle for other inventions.

True.
You would need a chunk loader for this to really work, wouldn't you? If the spot where you want to place the redstoneblock isn't loaded it won't work! (Just sayin)
True, though if you expect players to be near the chunk where it places the block then this isn't an issue, as the players keep the chunks loaded. In any case, chunk loaders aren't really that hard, so it would be simple to set up.
Well, you have to be in the literal chunk to hit the lever so having a chunk loader would be redundant.
It's not the chunk where the lever is being pulled, it's where the block is placed. The command won't work if you try to place it outside of a loaded chunk.
Yes I know I was just explaining the basic command and idea.

I doubt you can prove yourself to make something better...
It's even better if, on the input, you add a redstone torch connected to a command block that sets the redstone block to air. That way, it'll turn on when it's powered and turn off when it's not:
