I just don't think the game mechanics of FarmVille sit well with Minecraft. It's meant to be a time waster, with cooldown time and minimal interaction. I don't think players want to wait around their computer for their crops to grow. Also, FarmVille encourages you to bug your friends so you can get some perks or a decrease in the cooldown time. I don't see this system playing out very well in Minecraft. If you want a sort of farming game to base a server off of, base it off a Harvest Moon game. Sure, this requires more story and interactions with NPCs, but the payoff might be worth it.

Depends on how balanced the "economic" system would be. As I recall, games as Farmville are all about Pay-to-Win.
