Blog Contest : "Minetorials : Community Tutorial Contest"

Welcome to the first PMC blog contest! The goal of this contest is to exchange knowledge while using Minecraft as a common theme. Feel free to use text, images, video and any supporting materials to teach us your ways.

"A tutorial is a method of transferring knowledge and may be used as a part of a learning process. More interactive and specific than a book or a lecture; a tutorial seeks to teach by example and supply the information to complete a certain task." - Wikipedia

1. Teach us something you know while using Minecraft as a theme.

You can teach us anything you want but you must use Minecraft as an underlying theme. Naturally, you can teach us about Minecraft; How to create kitchen appliances in Minecraft, How to manage an underground farm, How to harvest gun powder safely, How to PVP like a boss, How to survive your first night, How to choose a host for your Minecraft Server, How to mix potions with useful powers, etc.

However, you can teach us anything. It doesn't have to be specifically about Minecraft.
Teaching us about Music? Use Minecraft Noteblocks for your demonstration.
Art? Use Minecraft characters / scenes as the theme of the art piece.
Programming? Use redstone or create a simple mod for Minecraft.
Grammar / Writing? Write about Minecraft.
Math? Use screenshots in Minecraft to illustrate the procedure.
Photography? Use the Minecraft world or structures as subjects of your photography.

Your tutorial simply needs to have a Minecraft theme.

2. Tutorials must be new and made for this contest.

No plagiarism! If you copy and paste, you're doing it wrong. Do not post existing member submissions, from this site or others, including your own work. Give us something new and fresh!

3. One entry per person.

Each user will only be permitted to submit one post for this contest. You may edit your one entry as long as the contest is still running. If you decide to change your submission at any point, you are free to do so. However, you should not delete your original entry. Instead, use the "update submission" button to save the changes.

4. The contest will run for two weeks.

Post dates must be made after today's date, July 10th, 2012 @ 12:00 PM EST. The contest will end about two weeks from today, on July 31st, 2012 @ 12:00 PM EST Posts submitted after this date will not be accepted.

5. Take your time and have fun!

The goal of a tutorial is to pass on some knowledge to your reader. They presumably are reading your tutorial to learn something new. Don't skip steps or assume they know what your talking about. Even if you feel it's common knowledge, your reader will appreciate a comprehensive tutorial even if they have to skip a step or two. Consider having a friend read your tutorial to see if they can follow it.

Remember, you have two weeks to do this. You don't need to put something up right away - and even if you chose to, you're allowed to update your submission as many times as you want before the final close date of July 31st, 2012 @ 12:00 PM EST.

All of the normal rules of the site still apply in this contest.

Do not rush yourself to get something in immediately. This contest is not a random drawing - the submissions are judged by a panel of judges. It will not help you to submit anything less than fantastic, so take your time. If you notice that other users have submitted something better than yours, edit and update your own submission to make it even better!

Phase #1: Entry Period : ~3 weeks

This is the time that everyone has to create and submit a contest entry. During this time, judges are reviewing entries, anonymously voting and disqualifying those that don't meet the contest requirements. The PMC community is doing the same by giving diamonds, feedback, etc.

Phase #2: Review Period : 7 days

After submissions are closed, judges get 7 additional days to review late entries and cast their final votes. Their votes are heavily weighted in an algorithm that includes the community's votes and activity to determine the finalists.

Phase #3: Finalists Calculated : Judges cast criteria ratings

After the finalists are calculated, judges begin anonymously rating each entry based on the following criteria on a scale of 1-10:

1) Form - Grammar, organization and craftsmanship.
2) Content - Overall quality, clarity and presentation.
3) Impression - Usefulness, creativity and integration of theme

Once the site detects that all judges have cast their ratings on all finalists, the winners are announced.
