Today is the birthday of two very important people:

Victor Caroli, born on this day in 1942, the famous narrator of the original Transformers cartoon, as well as the 1986 movie, the toy, cartoon, and movie commercials, the Secret Files of Teletraan II, the toy commercials for G2, early Beast Wars toy commercials, and two episodes of the Prime Wars trilogy (oh, and he voiced an unnamed Torkuli in "Webworld")

Kōjin Ōno, born on this day in 1959, designed almost every Diaclone toy, and helped work on the molds more when they became a part of Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers, a toyline known in the US as The Transformers, as well as several later figures once they'd started making original molds:
- 11 Autobot Cars between 1984 and 1985
- the Constructicons
- the Dinobots
- the 1984 Decepticon Planes
- the Omnibots
- the 1985 Triple Changers and Octane in '86
- the Metroplex and Fortress Maximus sets (and Grand Maximus)

In addition, he also worked on Overhaul/Jackshot for Cybertron/Galaxy Force, two Deluxes and the Fast Action Battlers and Cyber Slammers for the 2007 movie toyline, the G-Shock and Canon crossovers, Ultimate Optimus Primal from the Rise of the Beasts mainline, and, last but not least, the MPG Trainbots and MP-52, 53, 54, 56, and 57. He also has a soft spot for the Honda City R, Skids' alt-mode (one of the Autobot Cars he designed), and the red one he had as a kid inspired MP-54 Reboost.

Today's the 40th anniversary of the Transformers brand! Now, most likely, the actual anniversary is when Habsro greenlit the toyline, but we don't have that date, so I'm going with the release of the first piece of Transformers merchandise instead (that being The Transformers #1, published on this day in 1984).

Picked these up at Midtown Comics today

So…. this was freaking awesome. I love the concept of Transformers being on Earth in times other than the 80s or later, so this was perfect for me. Every character was written splendidly, and I was wondering what Sam would do with Bombard ever since I saw his animated short a few years back. It is a bit saddening seeing Tri, though… for those who don’t know (which is most of you), his depression gets really bad, and he winds up killing himself, which haunts First Aid forever… (and it doesn’t help when his next teammate, Hot Spot, starts grappling with the same feelings and nearly drives off a cliff).

As of next Thursday, I'll have been working on my Transformers fanfic for a year, and it's pretty funny that, on this day, 1 week from a big milestone, I begin my 100th overall chapter!

“Stand down.” the Predacon Megatron says behind Getaway. The council, along with Thundercracker, stand ready to fight. “I don’t think so.” Getaway replies. He pulls out his shotgun and shoots a plasma shell into the water. S-1000’s claws rise out and grab a startled Rodimus, dragging down into the depths. “Rodimus!” Bumblebee shouts. Perhaps even scarier is the sight of a pair of treads and a cannon also rising from the sea. “No…” Starscream says. “Not him.” Galvatron climbs onto the pier. “Look who’s back.” he says as he grins. The former Decepticon leader raises his particle cannon and fires at the council.

Happy birthday to Rory McCann, best known for playing the Hound in Game of Thrones, but also now known as the voice of EarthSpark Megatron!
