A member of the Corvidae family, they live in almost all of northeastern North America.
This bird loves peanuts, when they find some, some will go and hide them under dead leaves to keep them for later. They also eat sunflower seeds, suet, nuts and many other things. Some may also eat eggs from other birds.
They have a rather particular behavior to clean themselves. The blue jay will lunge at an anthill to drive restless ants out of the anthill. These, to defend themselves, will secrete formic acid. Formic acid is beneficial for the blue jay, it cleans it of parasites.
They love feeders and birdbaths.
