The Kurī is an extinct breed of dog that was brought to New Zealand by the Polynesian ancestors of Māori.
It is unknown as to why this breed became extinct, however some factors that may have contributed towards their extinction were interbreeding with other breeds after European arrival, farmers killing wild dogs, Europeans just killing wild dogs, Maori also killed dogs for cloaks and seemed to only keep the whitest looking dogs.
