The New Zealand Kākā or simply Kākā, is a large parrot endemic to New Zealand.
These cheeky birds are a favorite to many with their bold personalities, goofing around on branches and squawking into the late hours of the night.
Kākā are uncommon birds living in native forests of the mainland and a few offshore islands. Fortunately conservation efforts have been effective and populations are growing and starting to spread once again, you may even find some in Wellington City!
Kākā feed on a variety off foods depending on location and season, these can include nectar, sap, seeds, fruit, wood-dwelling invertebrates and there are two record of Kākā feeding on eggs of a small passerine species.
