The Balkon-class was a commercial light freighter designed by Datopala Industrial as an alternative to the Vacoen-class, which had been somewhat successful in the Ivesceel TAUFOG market among small businesses. The Balkon-class was designed to be highly durable, with minimal maintenance needed and easy access to critical structural components and systems to lessen the complexity and cost when any maintenance was required. Initial plans for the design began in 47,765 ACT with a small team of Datopala employees looking into using unused work on the Ecas-04 proposal, which would have been a patrol frigate if the company had succeeded in a government contract. With TAUFOG in a state of economic growth following the incorporation of the Rodain Empire and the formation of the Rodain Sector, as well as multiple mining sectors including the Asadol Sector being expanded, Dapotala had been interested in taking advantage of increased sales of light commercial ships such as transports and freighters. After significant assessment and analysis using the modified Ecas-04 design, Datopala began full-scale development of the ship, internally designated as the Balcet-0102, with the Ebanmi 459-Eir facility located in Paz Metticta leading the project. The design would be named Balkon-class a couple years before production began, with the first production hull being laid down at the Tuan Shipyard in 47,812 ACT.

The Balkon-class was quite unique among commercial freighters in TAUFOG, with curved hull plating along the dorsal surface and an extended bridge at the bow. The ship had a high cost compared to competing designs, with significantly less of its volume dedicated to hangar space. Datopala intended to avoid going up against larger companies such as Kualin Stardrives and Senirila Starships by producing a ship with a higher initial cost but less upkeep, with a dense internal structure and many systems to mitigate fatigue. In additional, while not able to carry the same quantity of cargo as the typical light freighter in TAUFOG, the Balkon-class offered many features absent on ships of its size, allowing for new business opportunities and sources of income for users. The ship had two hangars, with the aft hangar designed to accommodate storage containers using the TI-TASB-113.5 standard, a galactic standard for small and medium shipping containers. The Balkon-class could carry four medium-sized containers or sixteen small-sized ones, with two spaces below the hangar doors and two on the sides of the hangar structure with aft and forward attachment points. The Balkon-class used magnetic and adjustable repulsorlift systems in addition to mechanical methods to secure cargo, minimizing vibrations during lightspeed and atmospheric travel. The forward hangar bay was designed to accommodate a single medium-size container, or another sixteen small containers, and there was space in both hangars for dozens more small containers. The Balkon-class also had four internal compartments midship which could be used to store additional cargo, although the standard model instead had crew quarters and facilities. The equipment and furnishings in these rooms could be easily taken out, which companies would often do if they wanted to use the ship for short trips or a reduced crew. One last important capability of the Balkon-class was its large external fuel tanks. Two tanks integrated below the midsection gave the ship some ability to act as a supply ship, moving fuel, water, and other fluids or significantly increasing the Balkon's range. Some Balkon-class ships were even used to supply deep-space outposts between Ivesceel and Iesp, making the Balkon-class one of the smallest interstellar freighters in use in TAUFOG. Altogether, although not as efficient for cargo transport as other designs in Ivesceel, the Balkon-class was much more capable in other areas, which contributed to its success.

In addition to cargo capabilities, the Balkon-class was also a very well designed spaceship in general. Equipped with a single Hequ S5-200908-002 Oreph fission reactor at the aft, and three DI/SCC 105T-1000 ion thrusters developed by Datopala Industrial and the SEKAN Collades Corporation, the Balkon-class was significantly faster than any other TAUFOG commercial freighter being manufactured or in some state of development, able to keep pace with some capital ships. The Balkon also had a rating 2.1.4 FTL drive, which could achieve a speed of 1.6 million c sustained. This mobility have Balkon-class users an advantage while moving material or cargo, making the ship attractive to almost all transport companies. Combined with a very well constructed internal structure, which on average could go decades without any significant inspection or maintenance, the Balkon-class quickly became the most successful commercial freighter design in Ivesceel, with Datopala Industrial going from the 35th largest shipbuilder in the galaxy to the 6th in only 12 years. The ship would be sold in limited quantities in Iesp and other TAUFOG territories along the frontier, and production continued until 48,779 ACT, almost a thousand years after the first Balkon-class was produced. Balkon-class ships remained in active service across Ivesceel for hundreds of years after production ceased, and the design was recognized by the TAUFOG central government as historically significant in the late 48,200s. Datopala would design a number of ships in the Balkon-class line, including capital ships, but none achieved the quantities and success of the original Balkon-class freighter.
