Hello everyone! Today, more progress on my Rouffach before the revolution project!
Here is the Froeschwiller Thor, gate of Froeschwiller, known as the gate of Neuf Brisach.
It was built around the 12th century. It was the most imposing of the five gates of the town.
It was next to the St Jacques hospital which I will show in detail another day! Unfortunately, it was destroyed in 1807 like all the other gates following an order from the prefect Nicolas-Félix DESPORTES.

Voici la Froeschwiller Thor, porte de Froeschwiller, porte est dite porte de Neuf Brisach. Elle a été construite vers le XIIe siècle. C'étais la plus imposante des cinq portes de la ville. Elle était accolée à l'hôpital st Jacques que je montrera en détail un autre jour! Malheureusement, elle fut détruite en 1807 comme toutes les autres portes suite à un ordre du préfet Nicolas-Félix DESPORTES.
I also did the countryside that extends beyond the city walls, to the east in front of the Froeschwiller gate. I have a rather amusing anecdote: one of its meadows, called Tanzmatte, was a meeting place for the inhabitants to dance, jump, run,... And even to have a stone fight. This area was owned and maintained by the abbey of Eschau and it was forbidden to trample on the grass to preserve it. But several festivals were organised there and this order was not respected at all...
J'ai aussi fait la campagne qui s'étend au-delà des murs de la ville, à l'est devant la porte de Froeschwiller. J'ai une anecdote assez amusante: un de ses prés, nommé Tanzmatte était un lieu de rendez-vous pour les habitants afin d'y danser, sauter, courir,... Et même faire des batailles de pierres. Cet espace était possession de l'abbaye d'Eschau qui l'entretenait et il était interdit de piétiner l'herbe pour la préserver. Mais on y organisa plusieurs fêtes et cet ordre de fut pas du tout respecté...
