An automatic cactus farm I came up with after watching dataless822's cactus farm video. has 35,376 Cacti growing inside the towers. The tower design was based on dataless822's but there are a few differences. I also chose a different collection system using canals and ice.

Doesn't most of the drops fall onto other cacti? Would it be more effective if you had towers with were shorter, but you stacked them on top of each other? Because the cacti drops at the top may hit a cactus on the way down, the less distance the drop has to go the more chance of it making it all the way. That's my input at least, I think I will take MCedit and cut those towers in half, and compare the amount of items you get every 30 minutes.

Honestly, that slipped my mind while making it lol. I am not sure how many (if any) get destroyed on the way down. Either way, it still produces a decent amount of cactus. In my opinion, anyway.

Please let me know what you find out after taking them a part, I'd like to know as well.

I took a look at it, it doesn't look like their is a significant drop loss. Cutting the towers in half and stacking them would be more of a loss because you would take off a few layers of cacti. You did a great job on this!

Thanks! I think the way the cacti is layered actually keeps the drops from landing on the cactus so ti works out well.

Ha! You shoulda seen the original version I did on a CMP server. Had twice as many towers but there was a design flaw so it actually had 10,000 less cacti in it lol.

I plan on exporting a melon farm I did like this from that server too and putting it up here after a few tweaks.

Well it's not that bad actually. I don't build these in survival. I plan out a farm design and then duplicate it a few times, then design a collection system. The fun part is comping up with a farm design that is both automated and stackable up to the height limit and then optimizing it. So it gets more complicated when redstone is involved.
