Please Diamond =)

UPDATE: Thanks to the wireless redstone mod I can now focus completely on the hard drive design rather than wiring.

UPDATE: I have figured out a more efficient way of doing this, I just need to sync the redstone clocks and I will attempt to build a structure that will hold 8 Kilobytes or more.

UPDATE: I will only make a small scale version of the large zigzag type that is in the picture, as I have designed a drive that will theoreticly store over 4000 bits of data in one chunk (8x8x129).

A few concepts on storing information on minecraft, the first part of the project is an 8K storage drive.

For those asking, this device stores memory without using logic gates, it uses the fact that current will travel through solid blocks and not glass, effectivly making 1s and 0s, because the piston action makes it slow, it is only practical when storing larger amounts of data, yet it is incredibly small. It is planned to store a little over 64000 bits (1s and/or 0s)Please Diamond =)

You were really pioneering with this project :-) I'm a bit late, but still a good job.

How is it 4.4kilobytes instead of 8? It is planned to store a little over 64000 bits.

0.5 kilobytes sorry

4.4 kilobits

That sounds like a serious upgrade; you;ll have to mitigate the propagation delay; and add gap blocks (atleast 13) down the spine when the pistons are to be added.

But it would be the most memory EVER implemented into minecraft and i wish you luck.

How is the memory decreased? A bit is a single 1 or 0, and I am planning on storing at least 64000 of them, since 8 bits = 1 byte, 1000 bytes = 1 Kilobyte, is there somthing in minecraft that decreases this?

I admit, if you upgrade your device to 64,000 bits then you will be close ( since 8 kilobytes is 65536 bytes)

One kilobyte is 1024 bytes, one megabyte is 1024 kilobytes and so forth..

The reason is that although the prefix kilo- does mean 1000, the symbol KB actually means 10^2 ( which is a useful number in binary information technology )

But at the moment its 4.4 kilo BITS .

Sorry for the confusion, blame computer acronyms.

@gamer2person It's a redstone circuit to hold 8,000 bytes of binary(1,0 or on,off) data in game.
looks good man, what sort of system are you using to store the data? T flip flops?

it uses the same concept as CNBMinecraft's "ring buffer"

at the moment it is 18 blocks wide, 64 long, and 30 tall, and holds over 560 bytes (4518 bits) of data
