History up to November 1908:

Originally the Bayan-class Armored Cruiser Bayan of the Imperial Russian Navy. Started construction at a French shipyard in March 1899, launched in June 1900, and commissioned by December 1902. In 1903, she made port visits to Greece, Italy, and North Africa before arriving at Kronstadt. On 7th August, the ship departed for the Far East, along with the Battleship Tsesarevich, and arrived there on 2nd December.

At the start of the Russo-Japanese War (1904 to 1905), the ship was present at the Battle of Port Arthur (February 8-9, 1904), where the ship fired 288 shells combined from all of her guns while suffering slight damage and 41 of her crew casualty. The ship was repaired days later and spent the next two months patrolling outside Port Arthur. On April 13, she was present at a sortie where the Russians were forced to retreat after encountering a large Japanese force. During the withdraw, the flagship of the fleet Petropavlovsk, struck a mine and sunk along with the fleet commander Vice Admiral Stepan Makarov.

The ship was present in another sortie on 23rd June where the Russian fleet attempted to escape the Japanese Blockade and reach the port of Vladivostok, but the new fleet commander Rear Admiral Wilhelm Vitgeft, did not want to engage the larger Japanese fleet and ordered his fleet to return to Port Arthur and plan another sortie in a later date. On 27th July, the ship struck a mine and was repaired in Port Arthur until September, thus missing the Battle of the Yellow Sea (10th August 1904). After the battle, the Russian fleet was trapped in Port Arthur and was bombarded by Japanese land based siege artillery, many ships were sunk in shallow waters including Bayan.

After the war, the ship was refloated on 24th June 1905. She was commissioned into the Imperial Japanese Navy as Aso on 22nd August. She was towed to Maizuru Naval Arsenal in Japan for permanent repairs that lasted until July 1908. During this time, her boilers were replaced as well as the majority of her armaments. On 7th September 1908, Aso, together with the ex-Russian protected cruiser Soya, was assigned to the Training Squadron under Rear Admiral Hikojiro Ijichi. On 17th November 1908, the ship was present at the Imperial Naval Review and was temporarily assigned to the 1st Fleet. The commanding officer of the ship is Captain Gitaro Ishii from the 12th class of the Imperial Naval Academy who commanded the ship since 15th October 1907.

Hi there, my name is Crimist!

This is part of my project called “Imperial Japanese Navy (November 1908)”. In this project, I build warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy present in the Imperial Naval Review held at Kobe, Japan from November 17 to 18, 1908. The second part of this project will consist of Armored Cruisers. I hope you will like this build.

You can add me on Discord: “Crimist#7427” for more details about this project.

I hope you support this project as well as my other concurrent project called “Project Starfleet 2263” by simply giving Diamonds or Hearts. Anyways, thanks again for the support and see you on my next build!
