Hello,
it's time for another submission, so I'd like to present You another church: the Basilica of San Frediano, the principal church of the Vecchio district. It's located in the Mercato Vecchio square, one of the biggest squares in the city.
The basilica is one of the biggest and most important churches in the whole city-state (it used to be a cathedral, before the construction of the current one) and it's meant to contain tombs of the important citizens, and most of the doges (the crypts are still to be built) and it has the most classic shape, concerning the rules of architecture.
The inspiration for the basilica comes from two churches of Lucca: the Cathedral of San Martino and church of San Michele in Foro. San Frediano is built in pisan romanesque architectonic style (which has literally nothing in common with the other romanesque builfdings, as it's incredibly elaborated and its buidings are nearly as big as the gothic ones). The basilica is built from white marble and stone, with a brick bell tower, which recalls the one from Lucca. Next to the building You can observe a sandstone aqueduct.
