Today I show you my latest project: The Bulgarian series 46
Info
BDŽ series 46
The 46.00 series locomotives are the most powerful steam locomotives in Bulgaria, the largest tandem machines in Europe, the first and only in Bulgaria with two wheelless axles. Delivered twice, the main difference between deliveries is the type of steam machine. Nonetheless, they have almost the same traction capabilities and performance. The locomotives are mainly designed for the transport of heavy coal freight trains between Pernik and Sofia, replacing the 45.00 series . After 1964 they were brought to a mixed coal-fired combustion
Locomotives are fitted with a two-stage air pump and automatic and additional air brakes. The parking brake works on all wheel axles. All wheel axles are excluded, except for the front axle. Due to the symmetry of its chassis, the locomotive is able to move both forward and reverse with its design speed.
They did their original designation until 1968. After the introduction of diesel and electric traction they remained in reserve and on August 21, 1975 they were all scrapped together. For the museum collection 46.03 of the Zwingling system of locomotives (the machine served as fireman Nikola Vaptsarov ) and 46.13 from the system "Drilling" are preserved.
