Beginners Building Guide:

1. Suggesting you know what you want to build, you can start here.

Building Samples Are Included In Pictures!

First outline your build in any shape you darn well please.

Once you have a nice design that looks good and makes sense, making sure to remove any standalone blocks. You usually want to build in pairs of 3-5-7-9 and so on. You can move on to the next step.

2.Walls: Yes the walls

Now, you have to decide what you want your walls to be like. There are straight walls that rise straight up, the curved walls that either curve or bevel out as they rise, and the staggered walls like in a castle. It all depends what you want your build to look like. Lets start with the beveled walls considering you all know how to make a straight wall hopefully.

(Beveled Walls: ) Start building 3-5-7-9 blocks up around the entire perimeter or the wall(s) you want to bevel also depending on the height you want. (Smaller number means smaller wall.) Once completed go in or outward one block from the current wall and build another 3-5-7-9 blocks up, leaving no gaps between the previous wall and the new one. Continue till you receive the height you want slowly descending from say 9 to 3. (It is also possible to go out then back in.)

(Staggered Walls:) This will only work if you have a structure within a structure, so start there. Build the outer wall to a height beveled or not and with a pathway on it if you prefer. Then take the same bevel/ straight wall design and bring it to the inside wall making the configuration for the beveled wall larger than the previous wall.

3. Roof: Of course you need one.

You should now have walls on your new building, or a building base without a roof. Either one this next step is important. Once again there are many types of roofs you can use. There is the (cabin style roof), which is exactly as it sounds, 1x1 sideways towers stack one closer to the next rising up toward the center of the building. Then there are the (square roofs). Start one block or two (depending on the size of your build) away from the building and one lower than your top wall block, again leaving no gaps, then from there just build inlaying the blocks along your structures design. The third roof style is the hardest. The (step roof) comprised of inlayed steps instead of blocks. (Its more or less time consuming.)

4. Accents: Make the difference.

Grab some stairs that compliment your building block and set them on top of your block staggered roof. It will look like singles of a sort, although the step design does this for you. Another helpful tip is to put the stairs on the side of the block that hangs over your walls also. When placing stairs on the cabin roof make sure to place a stair as an overhang on both sides as though the roof is wider than the walls/base, which it can be. Now with specific designs, your base with the staggered walls looks a little too staggered. So place stairs or steps on the top of each block connecting to the next staggered area, including the floor it sits on.

5. Lighting: Is a big deal!

Now this is tricky to explain but here it goes. You lights should be spaced far enough apart to distribute light evenly around your build, without getting in the way. Three types of lights that work well for this are torches (as long as placed in center of 3-5-7-9 blocks or on top or single blocks.) Floor lights are next, where you dig 2-3 down placing glowstone in the 2 deep holes, or a redstone torch then a lamp and glass over the top of each. The third type of light is the sunlight, usually easy to get inside, without much modification. Although only helpful in the daytime it gives the build different personalities depending on the time of day. Use glass blocks on ceiling and panes in windows.

6. Windows: Are pretty.

You knew it was coming dont pretend it wasnt! Now windows should fit in between full size blocks inside a flat surface. (Except in some occasions.) Use glass panes for a more elegant looks while full glass blocks look more industrial. The blocks should also not exceed 3-5-7-9 blocks in length. If your window is 2 wide, its ok along with 4 and 6 so on and so forth. Try to add support looking blocks between windows. (Example: pane:pane:pane:stone:cobble:stone:pane)

Never put windows right next to your door, or the door frame which every door should have, along with a block of stone, stoneslab, or stonebrick underneath. (Whatever looks good to you honestly!) Try to keep the windows at the same height if they are on the same floor, in your build.

7.Floor: You need something besides grass

If possible make the main room a different block from the bedrooms per say. Try and leave a two block area for the second floors floor. That way your floor can be what you like while still preserving what ceiling you want underneath. Always choose complimenting blocks to what your outside walls are. (Included at bottom, some block combos that work well for building.)

8. Be Creative: You heard me make it original!

Block Combos:

1.Stone, Cobble, Stonebrick, Iron. & accompanying blocks stairs slabs etc.

2.Oak, Spruce, Planks, Stonebrick.

3.Sandstones, Stone, Cobblestone, Brick, Gold.

4. Lapis, Birch, Sandstone, Stone.

5. Brick, Stonebrick, Obsidian, Netherrack, Soul Sand.

6. Moss Stone, all Stonebricks, Cobblestone.

7. Iron, Oak, Birch Planks, Sandstone.

Additional Notes

I felt some people needed some advice on how to build. Just to recap.
