This is a map I've been working on on and off for a while now that I thought I would share. Very much of it is unfinished, and I plan on doing a lot more, but the general idea is that I'm trying to see how well Minecraft's mechanics would translate into a Dungeon-Crawler Format: wandering through dark hallways of flat, repeating patterns, fighting monsters, and collecting items. At the end of each dungeon is an Eye of Ender, and the goal is to get enough to find the stronghold and kill the dragon. There are many dungeons, and you are only required to complete as many as you feel is enough to locate and fill out the portal. They can be done in any order, but you are incentivized to travel to farther from the world spawn, as the farther away the dungeon is, the better the loot. In the overworld, between dungeons are numerous villages and towns, in which you can trade items you would find. You can get better gear very quickly through trading, so no item you find is useless.

The building style I'm going for is more simplistic, as I'm trying to evoke the feeling of an early 90's Dungeon-Crawling game, not unlike Dungeon Hack, or Eye of the Beholder. Many dungeons feature flat walls with repeating textures and little variation, and builds are not too overly-embellished either. I feel like there's a charm to the more simple and less impressive builds you see in places like the default generated structures of this game. Something you might also notice is that many of the structures and dungeons are pulled from other games as well, such as Final Fantasy, and Zelda. This is a laid-back project, and the main feature is the gameplay, so the visuals are not at all important. I will not take credit for a majority of these designs, however.

Something I'm always interested in is finding a new way to play MC, and transforming it into a different genre is a pretty good way to achieve that. You have to make decisions differently, hoard items you otherwise would gloss over, and greedily take whatever equipment you can get, as everything you find will eventually break. This may not be for everyone, but personally, I'm a huge fan of any kind of resource management, as well as old dungeon-crawlers and RPGs as well, so this is a project that comes natural to me.

Like I have said, this world is largely unfinished, so I will not be uploading the current version of the map just yet. I am new here, so I don't know if that's against the rules, and if it is, I will remove this post. I simply felt like sharing some of my ideas, and what I've gotten done so far. My plans for this are huge, and unfortunately, I don't spend as much time on MC as I do with my other hobbies, so progression is slow. Whenever I can though, I will try uploading videos of myself play-testing and balancing things in this map. If you are a fan of the same old dungeon-crawlers and RPGs that inspired this very game, you might find interest in this project. I will try uploading a playable version of the map eventually, and I can hopefully get some feedback from everyone here. Thank you all for your time.
