Welcome to Meridea, the creative playground!

Meridea is a large continent measuring over 16km x 10km in total full of biomes and regions for you to build on. This map is designed for Creative players looking for larger, realistic terrain to build on, or for RPG/Adventure map creators who want a large and varied map to work with.

Features

  • A diverse region with forests, a jungle, deserts, a snowy wasteland, hills, meadows, deep oceans, rivers and many more!
  • Includes a large continent and various islands.
  • A large network of caves, including hand-crafted unique caves.
  • Deep oceans that go down to -60.
  • Tall mountains that go up to 320.

Requirements
  • Minecraft Java Edition 1.18.
  • At least 5GB storage space.

Recommendations

Meridea was created to work in vanilla and only uses vanilla blocks and height limits, however this map was designed with the following resource packs and mods in mind:

  • OptiFine: greatly improve performance and is required for the recommended resource pack.
  • BetterVanillaBuilding: a great resource pack that includes reworked vanilla blocks and connected textures, as well as custom leaf colours in some biomes.
  • Distant Horizons: creates LODs for chunks outside of your render distance for an extended render distance up to 512 chunks (still in Alpha).
  • Effective: adds effects to falling liquids, making waterfalls look more realistic
  • Small Ships: adds ships to Minecraft and makes travelling Meridea's vast river network more enjoyable (still in Alpha).
  • JourneyMap: adds an overworld map to your display and a full-sized map of Meridea.



FAQs

Does this map work in Survival?

No. Meridea was not designed for Survival in mind and does not feature enough resources for you to comfortably play in Survival. This map is designed for Creative and Adventure modes.

What's outside of the map?
Meridea has a custom sea level of 20; there is a 512 block "buffer" of undecorated ocean between Meridea and new terrain which Minecraft will generate. However, Minecraft's sea level is 62 and this will not merge at all. There is an entire fence around Meridea before the "buffer" so venture past this fence at your own peril.

What shaders did you use for the screenshots?
Nostalgia Shader. There’s a lot of biomes and Nostalgia is pretty neutral and looks nice everywhere.

How did you get pink and other colour leaves?
OptiFine and BetterVanillaBuilding. They change the leaves in some biomes. Without BVB, they’ll just be birch trees.

Why are there no buildings?
This map is for you to build on. Use it to make your own builds and adventure maps.

Can I use this map for my server?
You can, but you must make the server available for free.

What permissions do I have?
You may not use this map for commercial uses or any financial profit. You may not repost or rehost any part of this map, including small areas of it.
You may feature this map in YouTube videos provided you give me full credit.

Will you release a version for-
No. This map will only work in 1.18 and above due to the height limit. It was designed for 1.18.2 and has not been tested for 1.18 and 1.18.1; I can't see why it wouldn't work on those two but you your mileage may vary.

It’s designed for 1.18 because no one’s happy about the reporting nonsense in 1.19+.

Hi, what version of Minecraft are you using? It was designed for 1.18 and might not work in later versions due to a datapack issue.

Hey! So I have a question. I´m currently working on a HUGE Project. It´s supposed to be a really huge minecraft role play map/mod. It´s supposed to bring the World of Aetheria from the book Diary of an 8-bit Warrior in to actual minecraft. The only problem I have, is that the map is HUGE. Its supposed to be 2 million x 4 million blocks. I know that sounds like a lot, but it actually is not since only like 1% of the map are known. So its mostly just a normal world, but on a butterfly kinda island. So my question is, would you like to help me on this project? Since I clearly don´t know anything about building big maps. If you want more information, I could add you on a discord, if you have discord ofc.

Hi, I don’t join projects or take commissions I’m afraid.


There’s also no PC that can handle a map that big. That’s just insane. That’s 8 million sq/km. You’ll need like 100TB or more just to store it.

A question. Is there some way to fix the biomes without doing it all by hand? Because there are biomes that are clearly not marked as they should be.Examples: Taigas where it should be Snowy Taigas. Meadow where it should be Grove or actual Taiga. Grove where it should be Snowy Plains or etc. There is definitely more, but this was from me exploring a chunk of the map. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. :D

Addendum: It also seems /locate biome doesn't work too well either. Sends me to the wrong biome

This map is not designed for "authentic" play as it is a stylised creative playground. Biomes were set as they are for aesthetic reasons only. I took little care into ensuring they were "proper", only that they looked good based on what I wanted.

/locate biome... I assume that works from the Minecraft seed and where it expects biomes to be based off of that?

just optimized this for 1.19.2; needed it in this version for conquest reforged mod... no problems so far, but then again, I've only explored a few hundred blocks from spawn

map is absolutely amazing and easy to build on.

Thank you! The map uses only vanilla blocks from 1.18.2 so you should have absolutely no problem with it in 1.19.2.

I'm happy to see Meridea is still of interest to people!
