Have you ever wanted to play the original Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest but in 3d? Well now you can in Minecraft.

I’m a fan of the original Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest game so I made a single player adventure mode map that plays out EXACTLY like the original Dragon Warrior game for NES. Seriously, if you don’t know what to do, look up an NES walkthrough for Dragon Warrior and follow along. Here is an NES walkthrough link https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Dragon_Warrior/Castle_Tantegel

A few things to note:

  • Make sure you install the resource pack that I have included in this file. Otherwise your mobs won’t look like Dragon Quest monsters.
  • The map, villages, dungeons, castles are exactly the same design layout, just bigger. Making this map HUGE. Close to 6000x6000 blocks. If you were playing the NES game, your character takes up 1 square space in a village or dungeon. That space is 3x3 blocks in Minecraft. To have this make relative space sense, that means one space in the overworld in the NES game is about half the size as a village (45x45 blocks).
  • To make areas more dangerous than others where custom mobs spawn, I have created literally thousands of command blocks in the ground to replace naturally spawning mobs so there is a diversity of monsters spawning when you get to other areas.
  • Mobs will have a chance to drop gold when killed. The harder the monster, the better chance you will get gold.
  • Since the map is huge, it is easy to get lost. Which is why I created trails connecting to all the towns and some beaten paths leading to the direction of caves/dungeons. You can kind of see these in one of the map images I uploaded. You of course don't have to take these, but they will help you from getting lost.
  • One thing that I can't get around is the penalty of dying. There are one-of-a-kind items that you need in order to progress the game and if you die and lose those items, then you can’t progress in adventure mode. Therefore make sure you keep the settings on that you don’t drop everything when you die.
  • While some might enjoy the sights when traveling, mobs are quite a nuisance during the day and especially at night. So to speed things up when trying to get around, I have created tamed invulnerable fast horses in the starting castle. I realize these are not in the original game but I'm sure some players would rather have them included to make getting around easier and faster.

I do plan on making a play through video to upload but I wanted to share this with the world now. This is my first attempt to make an adventure map to share and while I put in over hundreds of hours in this over the year, there may be places where I “missed a spot.” If you find anything that doesn’t look right or doesn’t belong, leave a comment for me and the XYZ coordinates and I will try and fix it. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I do. Please don't claim this as your own and give me credit for my work.
CreditThanks to various artist that uploaded images to Nova Skin, World Painter, World Edit, and of course the inspiration from the Dragon Quest games.
