Steve's fall led him into almost slamming his fragile body into the frame of the monster. He had seen the glowing red light days before, shooting across the sky like a dead mans mirage. Yet this was real, the alloy frame stood still, untarnished by the whispering sands. In awe he saw it fire again into the sky to some unforeseen enemy, it's butt bursting with exhaust. Rustling on the other side of the leg awakened Steve from his focus as an old man stumbled out from behind a giant white stake in the ground. He had not noticed it before but there were more stakes;they were spread out among the sand linking together to
form a massive creature. "Hello," said the man, "it has been a long time since anyone stepped foot in this sector, damn corporations ran our small watering hole out of business."
Too scorched to reply Steve remained silent.
"I'm sorry to say that if you are lost son, you wont be finding much help, after all, all of the residents have moved except for me and the scientists living in that building over there never come outside. Ever since I made the deal with them they have only wronged me. Sure they provided my land with purified water but they had been scheming behind my back the whole time which eventually led them to building these giant turrets to guard their treasure. The giant wires and looming military tech drove all of the tourists out of town and now. Great Skelly is lonely. And to make matters worse my deal with them will be off soon since
just last year they found out that the water would be gone in a year and a half."
"Where's the water?" croaked Steve.
"Don't get your hopes up, I'm taking the next bus out of here and you, well I'm sorry to say That there isn't a good drop left."
