This is a 1:1 scale replica of the Transfigurtation Church of Kizhi Pogost (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kizhi_Pogost) . This Church was built approximately 300 years ago on Kizhi island in northern Russia. It is said to be built completely out of wood without using a single nail. The church itself is a part of Kizhi Pogost ( "pogost" meaning a small settlement where travelers could stay, sort of an inn) which includes another church and a belfry, a UNESCO world heritage site. In the past decades, the Soviet archeologists and historians mounted a huge effort to relocate quite a few other antique wooden buildings from the nearby areas to the island, creating an open-air museum of wooden architecture.
This model is built only using wooden blocks as well :) I used oak, jungle and spruce planks, stairs and slabs to create a little bit more contrast between walls, curved roofs and the domes. I created it from scratch, using only the photographs and diagrams available on the Internet. Initially I built it on my local server in creative mode and later replicated it in survival on 2b2t.org where I mostly play.
The proper orientation of the church is with the entrance looking west.
