Mil Mi-26
The Mil Mi-26 is the largest and heaviest helicopter built in series in the world. In the early 1970s, the Russian airline "Aeroflot" needed an improved Mi-6 helicopter to be able to transport large loads in difficult and remote areas inside and outside Russia. The Russian Air Force needed a helicopter with a lifting capacity of 20 tonnes and with a range of 800 km. The aircraft had to be able to take off and land to a height of 1500 meters above sea level. The design agency Mil started developing the successor to the outdated Mi-6 (first flight in June 1957), in order to meet the wishes of the Air Force and Aeroflot.
