Just a small side project
Nakum is not a very large site (compared to giants like Tikal or Calakmul), but it has some very nice architecture, mainly incorporated in a grand acropolis located in the southern sector of the site.
Nakum was a regional ceremonial center, located in the northeastern section of the Petén-basin, on the banks of the Holmul river. Occupation of the site appears to have begun in the Middle Preclassic. During most of the Classic Period (250-900 AD) it was a subordinate of Tikal (which explains the similarity in much of the architecture of Nakum). Its peak came in the Late/Terminal Classic (600-1000 AD), especially after Tikal's power dwindled and the Central Maya Area was showing signs of distress and subsequent collapse. Nakum was soon to follow and short after its apogee it too collapsed and was abandoned.
As with all my reconstructions, it is hard to make a perfect 1:1 reconstruction due to odd angles and lack of valuable information regarding the site. Also, the map is a superflat rainforest biome, leading to a slight mismatch with respect to the environment in reality.
The structures may seem a little simple/boring at first, because I use only a handful of building-block types. Initially I want to reconstruct the buildings. After that I'll worry about appearances.

I consider this one finished, because of lack of data and all. And I need my time to work on my other projects (because they are far more awesome).
It was a fun, small side-project though and I'm pleased with the end result.

how about some more pictures or a download? Would love to see some more of this.
i am pretty sure you can make of google areas heightmaps and these you can import in worldpainter and voila you get a nice 1:1 map. With a bit practise shouldnt take to long
