Old Botanic Garden

The Old Botanic Garden dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. Later in 1854 a big glass Palace had been built to inhabit the First General German industrial Exhebition. The year 1931 and a big fire ended this part of its history - the Glass palace had burnt down completely. After a competition in the following years the Architects Paul Ludwig Troost and Oswald Biber was given the project to rebuild the Garden completely. The Pavillion was constructed by Oswald Biber in 1936, the Park-Cafe (his work as well) was opened in 1937. The foutain facing the facade of the Palace of Justice was made by the sculptor Josef Wackerle in 1937 as well. This fountain called "Neptunbrunnen" (Neptune-well) is connected to a Entrance portal built in 1812 by portuguese architect Emanuel Herigoyen. North of this Garden beginns the so called "Arcisstraße" which leads to the Königsplatz. East of that street the Financial bureau of bavaria was built (finished 1941), giving the surrounding a new face. West of it the Buildings of Sience by the Bavarian state, existed, but were destroyed during the war. This is the State of the Garden in a Munich in the year of 1959, if the National socialst plan to reconstruct Munich succeeded.
