Piston Combination Locks
These are the most compact locks you will ever find in Minecraft. How do I know? They are 3 blocks thick! This includes the buttons, a block to put the buttons on, and the 'wiring'.

I've previously uploaded a combination lock based on the design by AntVenom, which we both claimed to be compact, but now I realise it really wasn't. We've been going about it all wrong! Pistons will innovate future combination lock designs and leave redstone wiring redundant.

In this pack I've included 8 examples of varying sizes of this piston combination lock concept. They all (Except the concept design which is purely for demonstration) come with a "Sand" variant which uses sandstone instead of stone.

I've also created two designs, the Monolith and Nano, that are easily resettable and I recommend them for survival maps. There is more in-depth information on these designs in the README included in the download.

I plan to add more designs, which is why I haven't set the progress to 100%. The designs included are finished. Also, UCCL stands for Ultra-Compact Combination Lock. I realise now that PCL for Piston Combination Lock would be a better, more specific name but that would require a lot of renaming.

WARNING: Any designs with the "Sand" suffix requires Minecraft 1.4 because I've replaced the stone buttons with wooden ones for camouflage. Because I replaced blocks using MCEdit, it causes a temporary graphical glitch where wooden buttons appear to be wood plank blocks. Re-logging generally fixes this problem but it could be used to your advantage, to confuse other players. SethBlings Random Blocks MCEdit filter may have caused this but I'm not sure. When I next update this pack with new combination locks, I will have this problem fixed as well.

Additional Notes

Apologies to AntVenom for making your design redundant ;)

Update #1 : by TheAstroSteve 11/01/2012 3:26:15 amNov 1st, 2012

+ Added Stone versions without signs
+ Added Sandstone versions without signs
* Edited and replaced all Sandstone designs to stop graphical glitch
* Minor changes to some file names to stop confusion

Note: If the sandstone versions still have buggy buttons, then it's a problem with MCEdit that I cannot fix.

Download MCEdit from here www.mcedit.net/windows.html

MCEdit is a brilliant world editing program and it allows you to edit your world saves and import or export SCHEMATIC files.

Once you have MCEdit, put any SCHEMATIC files you want to use in your MCEdit-schematics folder. Everyone should have MCEdit, so I strongly recommend you get it.

I already had MC edit, but how do you convert schematics into world files that minecraft can run on? I already know that I can use worlds to add schematics.

You don't convert them into worlds, you open a world that already exists with MCEdit, then import the SCHEMATIC into the world. In other words, SCHEMATICS are by far better than world saves because you get the thing you actually want and can copy, paste straight into the world you want it in.

I'm about to add a picture to this project which shows you how to read the GUI for the locks.

Each design comes with a combination built already, to change the combination you need to re-arrange the pistons on the back.
You can tell what the combination is because when you choose a folder from the download it will contain a Stone "Informative", Stone, Sandstone and Sandstone "Informative" version. There is also a folder named by the solution to the lock. The informative versions have signs on them which tell how to open the lock.
1 refers to the bottom left. Then as the numbers increase go left to right and bottom to top.
