Days after crash landing, Steve recovers consciousness in the wreckage of his star ship. Looking over the damage, he realizes that he is stuck in this strange world. Off in the distance, Steve can make out the shapes of buildings and decides to head towards them. They are completely deserted but intact save for a flaming hole punched into the front of one of them. Entering the main building, Steve realizes that it is a library and that this collection of buildings was once a center of learning and knowledge. Still clueless as to why this magnificent place is abandoned, he returns to the largest building; the only one showing damage. Inside, Steve peers into a crater smashed into the floor and finds at the bottom............................................................ his star ship's engine core; badly damaged and leaking radiation. Steve suddenly realizes that this is the reason everything is abandoned, and he's responsible!
