The first energy that mankind used was the burning of wood to generate heat in houses. We cut down forests and plant crops, destroying existing ecosystems. With the development of technology, we received electricity, but in order to extract it, we began to mine and burn coal indefinitely. We thought little about the harm to the environment. In particular, global climate change due to uncontrolled CO2 emissions.
Oil, petroleum products and their reckless use have led to incredibly large environmental problems. The oceans have turned into landfills, forest fires are increasing every year, and the main threat is the incredibly rapid rise in temperature.
We recently adopted a zero-emission policy. To do that, we're switching to alternative sources of electricity. They are not perfect, but they can help stop global climate change. Right now, we're developing a new, clean source of electric power. The ITER project is being developed to examine and produce thermonuclear electricity. In the near term this is the cleanest way to produce the energy we need.
We are now sending probes to other planets to search for potentially habitable planets. But we need to strive to do everything possible so that future generations go into space to colonize new planets, and not evacuate because of problems in our house!
