This is my idea for a secret room within your base - it uses the simple 'Redstone Dust Key' concept to give out a one tick pulse to then go into my 'T Flip Flop'. This keeps the door open until you close it, which I found useful within my base.
My favourite part of this build is the speed at which it opens - the build features the most compact 1x2 piston door too.
This is all completely buildable within Vanilla Minecraft, and does not take up too many resources.
What you will need
A minimum of 2 repeaters (depending on how far away the Redstone Dust Key is from the door.)
8 pistons (6 for the compact 1x2 flush door, 2 for the torch key.)
1 redstone torch
1 lever
1/2 stack of building blocks (not too important as they won't be visible).
A varying amount of redstone (usually about 1/2 stack)
