Bonjour! Voilà la dernière avancée de la cathédrale de Strasbourg au fil du temps!
En 1399, un nouveau maître d'œuvre est engagé. Il s’agit d’Ulrich d’Ensingen. Il va alors dresser le plan d'une tour octogonale qui sera flanquée de quatre tourelles d'escaliers à vis. Beaucoup de sculptures sont identifiables sur la flèche, dont quelques vierges mais aussi la sculpture d’Ulrich d’Ensingen.
Après sa mort, l’achèvement de la flèche fut confié au maître d'œuvre Jean Hültz de Cologne, qui révolutionna le concept de flèche en apportant des techniques nouvelles pour l’époque. Il conçoit ensuite un concept de pyramide à huit arêtes avec huit escaliers convergents vers le lanternon octogonal. La flèche est finalement couronnée d’une croix. La flèche est au moment de son achèvement, en 1439, est le plus haut édifice au monde construit par l’homme avec ses 142 mètres de haut!
Ainsi s’achève notre voyage à travers le temps! Déjà après l’achèvement de la flèche, on jugea nécessaire d’entamer des travaux de restauration. Le chœur ainsi que les voûtes de la nef sont restaurés vers 1455. Dans le contexte de la réforme, la ville de Strasbourg adhère au protestantisme en 1524. Des statues de la vierge sont alors détruites, les peintures effacées : la cathédrale devient protestante. C’est alors qu’en 1665, une deuxième flèche est envisagée, mais l’idée est abandonnée. Durant la Révolution française, plus de 200 statues sont détruites. En 1794, les révolutionnaires voulurent démolir la flèche. Pour la sauver, le conseil général de Strasbourg décide de coiffer la flèche d’un bonnet phrygien. Le XIXe siècle fut marqué par beaucoup de restaurations, mais aussi de la guerre de 1870, où la cathédrale fut incendiée et impactée par des tirs d’obus. Alors que la cathédrale n’avait subi aucun dégâts suite à la première guerre mondiale, la deuxième guerre mondiale a endommagé la tour de la croisée du transept. Après la seconde guerre mondiale, jusqu’à aujourd’hui, beaucoup de travaux de restaurations sont menés. Malgré le fait qu’elle fut détrônée du plus haut édifice du monde en 1876 par la cathédrale de Rouen, elle reste un symbole de l'Alsace, et une des cathédrales les plus emblématiques de l'art gothique flamboyant!

While the cathedral suffered no damage from the First World War, the Second World War damaged the tower of the transept crossing.
