The Storting is Norway's national parliament, and houses the 169 representatives from all over the country. The building was opened in 1866, 52 years after Norway got its constitution. The building is located on the side of the Karl Johan street in the center of the city. The buildings location gives it a head on view towards the Royal Palace, bringing the monarchy and democracy closer. The Storting was supposed to look different, but due to protests from the press and the governement a design by Swedish architect Emil Victor Langlet was picked instead. Today the Storting is the pure physical evidence of Norway's democracy.
